special saddle

Hi, I got a new mountain bike with a cut out saddle, which is great to stop impotency, except in transferring the pressure to my ass cheeks it has unfortunately made some hairs go ingrown which causes painful boils! :(

is anyone aware of a good saddle i can get that won't cause these problems? i think the main thing is not to have movement and pressure together as this is what makes the hairs grow in. does anyone know of a very soft conventional saddle, and could suspension help?

cheers, Ru

Well, properly configured, with any saddle your weight should be resting on your sit bones anyway. This means pressure on your ass and not your prostate. You could try something like a soft saddle cover, but that would sort of negate the cutout.

Question - are you wearing cycling shorts when riding? This helps with moisture management and friction which in turn helps with things like ingrown hairs. Even wicking underwear is a step in the right direction.

If all else fails, you can always just get rid of the hair...

As well as good cycle shorts a good tip is to use a barrier cream (stops sweat) on the area in contact with the saddle. As moisture contributes to friction this works well and you should be more comfortable. In high temps. and when wrapped up warmly in the nether regions this is a big help. Should find this at any chemist (drugstore). Works for me! George.
