HS seniors bike to school...and get suspended!

Talk about over reaction!
A bunch of local HS seniors biked to school on their last day, with police escort and the city Mayor. When they got to school the principle went off on them!

It seems to me,what they do before entering school property is none of the principal's business anyways (school property includes school busses, mind you,but come on...). I,my Dad,and the principal of my high school (back in my senior year of 1991 :twitchy:) had that discussion twice...te one time when I rode my YZ250 to school via railroad tracks (the teens highway back then,we all had some kinda bicycle, dirt bike,or ATV,LOL),and another time when I got into a race with my HS nemisis and we both passed him during the meat of it on the highway  I think they get all full of themselves,personally...but then (with the exception of my ARMY days),I have issues with anyone who doesn't sign my paycheck thinking they have authority on me anyways (and I'm kinda "retired" :roflmao2:)

They kicked the seniors out of school for their last day and threatened to keep them from walking in graduation ceremonies set for May 30.
They could have threatened me with that and I'd be happy. I didn't want to bother with graduation from university, and the university wanted to charge me $50  for the privilege of skipping it.

I didn't reply, skipped it anyway, and didn't get charged. :) They even mailed me my diploma.

There have been a few things in the news about schools feeling they are responsible for how their students get there, and they don't like bicycling. I posted an article around here about one incident a few years ago.

They must be bored, lonely, and have absolutely nothing better to do...

That principal...like so many other people in positions of authority, is completely out of touch with reality and is only interested in CMA/CYA. As well as being incompetent. I also fail to see how riding bicycles to school is a prank. My god nearly 40% of the US population is overweight...and these kids wanted to do something healthy and non destructive? Off with her head!!!:crash:

Aaron :)

Give a little person a little authority, and this is what you get. I worked with and around school administrators for 30+ years, and this kind of jackassery is more common than you'd think.

How out of touch can a school principal be?

It's the end of May and kids are counting the number of school days they have left. So what does the principal do? Not let them come to school that day. If she wanted to punish them, she should have made them come to school for an additional day. Of course, that would have ment that she would have to come in for an extra day too.

it's simple. the principal will have to recant everything, eat her words and offer an apology. case closed.

Her stock portfolio is probably chock full of GM, Ford, and pharmaceuticals. Gotta keep people in their safety cages and on their meds or the stock will fall...

Back in my day bikes were not allowed. So I drove a car. NYS junior license.
You would think that with the obesity problems that the schools would set up an area where bikes could be stored for those who chose to ride them.
It may even allow cut backs in the school bus budget if it ever caught on big.

Government employed fascist educator. What can you say?

:innocent:

It's been published in another thread that she has recanted and that none of the students are being punished.
