    Can i get a lil fit help?

    Greetings bike forums! Long time lurker, first time poster. I just finished my first bicycle build and wanted to know what you guys thought of the fit. I took it on my first century ride about 2 weeks ago and my ass and hands were on fire afterwards. After that though everything seems to be fine. I've learned to bend my arms and now own cycling specific shorts. so everything feels "OK" just wondering if everything looked right. The frame is weird as heck and has a super low standover "30inch" compared to its TT length "53cm". I'm about 5 foot 6 and run a 120mm stem.

    1) It looks like you're locking your knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke. A bit hard to tell with the street clothes on. If your leg is straight at the bottom of the pedal stoke, lower your saddle until your knee has just a tiny bend when your heel is on the pedal.

    2) It also looks like your handlebars are quite a bit lower than your saddle. Can you raise them?

    I can flip the stem, and have ran it that way before. But It's just as comfortable flipped or un-flipped. So i figured i might as well keep it low, unless I start developing back pain from it (which I have yet to experience).

    I'm pretty sure I did that first century with my arms locked straight 90% of the time which led to the pain. Ever since I've tried to keep them bent and it's gone away. I'm doing another one this thursday so that will be the real test. If it continues I'll swap out the stem with the one on my MTB which is shorter and slightly steeper. Thanks for the advice I was more concerned with the frame and TT fitting me. Seat/handlebar height are easy to tinker with.

    The only way you're going to fix the frame and top tube is to buy a new bicycle ... or is that what you want? Do you want someone to come along and tell you it's OK to buy a new bicycle?

    Before your next century, deal with the saddle height. If your leg is straight, or very close to it, with the ball of your foot on the pedal, you're flirting with serious a achilles tendon injury. Not to mention, you'll be rocking when you pedal.

    Believe me buying a new frame is the LAST thing i wanna be doing as a college student haha.

    In my experience hand pain is mostly attributable to an inadequate number of positions.
    Hence the Antler Bar!


    Notice that the thread is going on seven years, and I still use a cut down version of this setup.

    It looks to me like your seat is a tad bit too high. Your leg should be straight when seated with your heel on the pedal. When pedaling with the ball of your foot on the pedal, you'll have a slight bend in the leg. Do you find yourself rocking left/right when you pedal? If so, the seat is too high. I would say somewhere around 0.5cm lower might help. Also the seat might be tilted down a bit? I've been told the seat should be flat; yours looks like it might be angled down a touch? I don't really have a good feel for proper front/back seat positioning. My two road bikes have slightly different seat heights and I can definitely tell the difference, but I'm not sure which I prefer. Perhaps some googling on how to do self-fit might help you tweak your bike to be more agreeable with your body.

    Bikepacker, are you still running rapid fires?

    I had asked about the Shimano A050 shifters in another thread, and someone suggested they could be good for bullhorn bars since you'd be able to shift from the horn or the flat. I wonder how something like that would work with your setup.

    It looks int he pictures like your seat is angled nose-down - this is the #1 cause of excessive pressure on the hands causing numbness and pain. If you tilt it closer to level-with-the-horizon you might find it is more comfortable a tiny bit lower, as mentioned above. Otherwise I think thet bike looks like a decent fit.

    Your seat is about 2 inches too high. See the amount of knee bend in picture #2 ? It should be almost that much in picture #1.

    Go to a bike shop.. ask at a place they can see you on your bike,
    watch you pedal, etc...

    Your choice of bars seem dumb to me, for more than a JRA around town.
