Fast food drive through...on a bike?
Just wondering how many, if any, of you have ordered in a drive through of a fast food resturant on your bike? Lets say Mc Donalds, I got in twice but they once rejected me once :(? I thought a bike would have classified for a drive through, there is no sign or anything saying we cant?

I used to do it all the time.

I tried at a Whataburger and was chased away by a guy with a broom.

Done so on a motorcycle, but never on a bicycle because I hear they aren't terribly fond of that due to law and liability.

I and a kid named Chad Schlesinger went through a McDonald's drive through once on foot on a marching band trip to Niagara Falls. If we can pull that off, complete with motions pretending we were in a car, chances are you can pull it off on a bike at least some of the time.

I tried it once in downtown Elyria at a McDonalds. I was told they were not allowed to serve cyclists, that I had to come inside. I told the person at the window that by law "I was a vehicle" the same as any other on the road and I had to abide by all traffic laws. She was surprised to learn this. She slipped me my cherry pies and a shake on the sly so her boss wouldn't see. As I pedalled off she thanked me for the info!

If there's nowhere to lock your bike out front (which there probably will be, but that's not the point), say to them "You don't provide somewhere to lock up, so I'll sue you if someone steals my bike". They'll serve you then.
Like the bit about legally being a vehicle, never thought of that. |
It seems we are hard on "distracted drivers" in this forum. I see complaints of people driving and eating, using cell phone, grooming, etc. In this thread it appears we are favoring a cyclist's right to operate his or her vehicle while distracted.
I expect some will now argue that a to-go order can be stored safely on a commuter bike or in a back pack. The image conjured up in my mind with the discussion so far though is of a cyclist riding hands-free with drink and a burger in each hand. |
I work at Arby's during summers, and our sensors wouldn't pick you up. You'd have to be heavier.
|
About a month ago I saw an article in the Telegraph or Guardian, with photo, of a troop of the Queen's Horse Guards, picking up snacks at a MacDonalds the drive thru. Unfortunately I have been unable to find it since.
