was this an insult ? - video

I was riding on the bike path in Redondo Beach on my mountain bike when a guy on a road bike passed me and said "get some dirt on that thing".

Previously I have heard roadies talking smack about mountain bikers and them being posers if their bikes are clean.

What do you make of this ?

** turn up volume to hear

I make that you just shrug it off, change the subject you are thinking about, and get back focused on here and now.

I put that type of comment in the same category as "Get on the sidewalk!" and "You're not a car!", in one ear and out the other, and at least he wasn't packing around 3000+ lbs of sheet metal with him.

Whats wrong with riding a mtb on the road? In Korea everyone rides mtbs abd you seldom see road bikes. Besides, a clean bike means a clean drive system and makes for better riding. I'd just ignore it and ride on.

Many roadies are also hardcore MTB'ers. I see nothing wrong with the comment.

It depends on the MTB. If you were riding a Gary Fisher Wahoo, he was just messing with you.

If you ride a carbon frame dual suspension special, it was an insult, and probably a well-deserved one
Its like buying a Land Rover and being afraid to take it on a gravel road for fear of messing up the paint job.

My reaction is that some people have incredibly thin skins. If that counts as an insult, life must seem hard to you.

Its a specialized dual suspension carbon bike.

So I guess the guy who passed me for 3 seconds of my life knows the history of me and my bike so he is free to lob insults to strangers.

haha

Re read my post. I asked if it was an insult. I didnt say I was insulted.

I dont know all the ins and outs of cyclist douchbaggery so I wasnt sure if the other guy was trying to insult me or not.

Yeah, he was trying to be a smart-ass. Next time you run across him, spool it up a bit and give him a chase! He looks fast, but who knows? Test him, and make him work a bit for those insults.

If you were riding a "clean" MTB then he was saying was go have fun off road.

If not.........

It's not an insult unless you are insulted. That you had to ask, says you felt insulted. Otherwise, its a moron flapping their gums. Cyclists are people, playground rules apply.

What I see in the video is that you are riding along on an uncrowded bikepath on a hellaciously beautiful day on a part of the planet that people pay thousands of dollars to even come and visit and you are trashing it in your head for what some stranger said in passing.

Check out Eckhart Tolle. Your ego is playing bad games with you and making you miserable when you don't need to be. Exhale deeply, regain your center, be here now and get back to that beautiful uncrowded bike path.
