What year is this specialized hardrock?

I need some advice. My friend is gonna sell me this specialized hardrock for $100 and I was wondering what y'all thought about it, and also if you could tell me the year and exact style it is(ie. sport, etc.)

A picture or two might help.

This one is a 1988 model as far as I can figure. The fenders and rack were added later.

Sometime between 2000 & 2003, Specialized added a suspension fork and updated the frame geometry to accommodate. If the bike has a rigid front fork, it's older than that. If it has a suspension fork, it's newer. Either way, whether or not you're getting a deal at $100 is a matter of condition.

You can check out the Hardrock entry on BikePedia for more info. Click on the different model years until you find a bike whose parts match the one you're referring to.

And whether it fits and whether you'll ride it.
