Is all Proofide the same?
Is there only one Brooks Proofide? I went to Amazon to shop for Proofide. I discovered what appeared to be 3 different kinds of Brooks Proofide: 1) Brooks Proofide saddle dressing SA1250; 2) Brooks Heritage Saddles Proofide Leather Dressing; 3) Brooks England Genuine Leather Dressing.
Is there more than one kind of Proofide? Or, is this an example of an Amazon anomaly? Years ago, when I purchased Proofide, I was aware of only one kind: 'Brooks genuine leather saddle Proofide leather dressing - 2-oz/56 grams.'
I'm looking for a Proofide that won't stain light colored shorts. If there is more than one kind of Proofide, which one is least likely to stain shorts? Last question: I know Saddle Soap doesn't stain. What's the conventional wisdom relative to the use of Saddle Soap compared to Proofide on a Brooks saddle?

I also thought there was only one Proofide, and I'm not going to dig up mine to confirm the spelling. You should keep in mind that Amazon pretty much accepts product descriptions as presented by their various vendors. You should probably go to the Brooks website for confirmation.
I'm pretty sure stains from the saddle have more to do with the dye, though some of it might dissolve in the proofhide and transfer to the shorts. I wouldn't wear white shorts with a black Brooks, regardless of leather treatment.
I use saddle soap for cleaning leather shoes. Put it on thick, and wipe (not rinse) it off. I suppose I would use it on a saddle if I ever wanted to wash it. The stuff is supposed to replace oil in the leather when washing, but I would not use it as a leather conditioner.

I have proofide from brooks in 3 different cans. The latest one I have is black and made of plastic. Go to https://www.wallbike.com to order the real deal. That way you will be safe, and it shouldn't matter where you buy it the stuff is cheap.
The issues with shorts is the Dye on the leather. Its hit or miss as to if it transfers. Proofide wont fix that.
