Chain Scratch on new Trek DS 8.2 need Dark Blue Touchup Paint ideas

I'm sick... Chain got loose on a front sprocket downshift on my 2 week old DS 8.2 resulting in several scratches in the dark blue paint. This is the 2012 Pearl White/Dark Blue DS 8.2 color scheme. Too bad it wasn't the white; that would have been an easy match. My question- has anyone found in either Testors or nail polish a match for the dark blue metallic paint? Don't know if that color was used on anyother Trek models. I'm sure there's one out there, buy I'd rather not re-invent the wheel unless I have to. And there's always the local automotive paint store. Thanks! BTW, Trek and the LBS were no help.

The Auto Paint store can match the color using a spectrophotometer. At least you know it will match!

I had the same experience with Trek. I don’t know if other bike manufactures sell touch up paint for their bikes but Trek definitely does not sell any touch up paint.

Let me ask a “What if” question. What if my bike was damage in motor vehicle, versus bicycle accident and the accident is not my fault? I am going to be looking for the insurance company to fix my bike to look the same as it did before the accident. Is the bike shop going to tell the insurance company, that the bike can’t be restored because they can’t match the paint?

Basically, yes! The insurance company (if you have the right one or at least the liable party's) will usually give you money for a new bike. Restoring an old bicycle is usually not cost effective.

I've added my new bike to a supplemental homeowners policy that will cover 100% loss, theft, damage, etc. My laptops and cameras are under the same umbrella. Very reasonable price for the coverage.

I'm taking the Trek DS to the auto paint store today. Also, I'm stopping by the local dent/hail repair shop.
