Should i call the police or let it go?
I was finishing up a ride this afternoon when a couple punks threw a cup of dip spit at me from there car as i passed by them it didn't hit me directly but i did get some on me, i turned around and got close enough to get there liscense plate number as they were waiting for traffic to clear, my question is should i call the cops and report this to try and teach these punks a lesson or would i be wasting my time seeing as the police probably won't do anything. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Call um...now.
|
Should've called already.
|
if i took the trouble to get the license number, i think i'd call it in.

You're saying that they threw something at you that caused you harm?
|
They threw body fluids at you. Potentially infectious. That's not nice. More illegal most places than throwing other stuff at you.

Call their non-emergency number and report it. Even if they don't take it too seriously, most police services have a unit dedicated to low-priority calls so you're not taking an officer away from solving the crime-of-the-century. The likely response will be either a warning letter or officer visit to the home of the vehicle's registered owner, with possibly a flag on the plate or RO. Charges aren't likely unless there is very strong evidence (like video), or there is a history (which you are helping establish for the next guy by calling this in).

Always report crimes... unless you don't care about rudeness, or the taxes you pay...

Chris Under PA law there would be several possible charges that could result but most likely the local District Judge (District Justice) would give the minimum fine if you suffered no injury. And if was a juvenile who threw it nothing would be done. You might want to carry a small canister of pepper spray. I had one incident of a nearly full cup of soda hit me in the middle of the back. Caught up with the vehicle. The juvie and his mother thought it was funny until the fog came in through the kid's open window. I just rode away grinning! |

Damned stupid thing for you to do. |

That's bright. In many states what you did was commit a felony, since in many states pepper spray is considered a weapon. Plus, you used it in retaliation, not in defense of yourself. May have felt good at the moment, but you may well just consider yourself lucky to not be in jail and convicted of a felony - particularly since you shot the "juvie."

There's no point calling because they won't even write it down. Document it in a letter and deliver it by registered post with a duplicate copy being sent to the local government official. Otherwise you might as well go report it to a squirrel on the bike path.

A good practice is to not only memorize or jot down license plate numbers, but also make and model of car (I'm bad at this one) and have a good description of the driver, or in this case the passenger. You should be able to identify a person without a doubt. This is the rule of thumb for getting convictions on school bus stop-sign runners, so I'd assume it should be good for other things.
Regardless of what information I had, if I felt threatened (and I most definitely would here, not to mention GROSSED OUT) I would report it as soon as possible. Haha, I've been watching too much NCIS- you have DNA evidence! |

Happened to meet up with Sheriff deputy in patrol car,
just after having a milkshake thrown while passing the High School, at my back, when I got to the convenience store.. 1/2 mile down the road. Pickup truck, didn't see the license number, so it didn't count for much.. The nature of Social Security transfer payments , the young punks still have decades of FICA deductions ahead of them, and some resource war they will be sent off to fight.. done that.. .. I'm 64.95 . bwaha ha ha :50: |
Dont waste your time , nothing legally can be done about it.
No proof , he said she said. Forget about it and move on. |
always report. these creeps may have a pattern of behaviour that is actually escallating. if no one ever reports them it may be too late for someone else who suffers from a personal injury when they decide it would be funny to throw something else at a cyclist
