weirdest fumes you've ever been hit with while biking
In addition to the usual diesel and other engine exhaust fumes.
Spray paint fumes. I got stuck in a 50 meter-long cloud of spray-paint fumes near a bridge on the forest preserve trail. Some Latino youths decided to spray paint some graffiti on the old bridge. I had to pedal like a maniac to get out of the cloud, but the wind kept me in it for well over a minute.
Lawn-care chemicals. I was riding down a side street and turned to see some lawn-care workers applying pesticide or fertilizer to a lawn. A wind gust carried some of the noxious chemicals straight into my face. Actually, this happened more than once.
Saw dust. I was riding down a side street and got met with a cloud of saw-dust from the backyard of a nearby house. Someone was doing some construction on their garage or something.
Thick barbecue smoke. Was riding and had to pedal through some 400 meters of constant barbecue smoke. At times it smelled like smoke from multiple bonfires.

Yes, I've had those too. I couldn't figure out what it was at the time but I smelled something nice, something like smoke. Like some sort of herb being burned. I suddenly got what seemed to be a flashback and everything seemed extremely surreal. I was also in ecstasy! but only for a short moment. I liked those hipster fumes.

I rode from the city to the country on recent century ride...
I just kept riding until I smelled the cow poop and turned around.

if you lived in Greeley, CO you'd be turning around every time you opened the front door. I can predict rain where I live if I can smell Greeley.

We have huge orchards around here. They spray the fruit trees using a big truck with a huge fan like off one of those swamp boats, like an airplane propeller in a cylindrical faring. The force of the air flow just about knocks the tree over! They drive around the orchard spraying one tree at a time. But the air flow carries the spray a couple hundred yards. Just what have I been dowsed with that way, I do wonder!

A paceline lead out that farted too much.
A sewage lift station that had failed.
Chlorine from a few pool service trucks.
I was once guilty of smoke from a Bar-B-Q smoker so thick an ignorant neighbor called the fire department. (A smoker is NOT and open fire but contained in a fire box.) I had enough food to feed the shift at that station of 6 firemen and 2 paramedics brisket and sausage.

Marijuana smoke last night on a rural road with woods bordering it, at about sunset. Definitely marijuana.

Fish Commercial catching and processing is a 100+ year old business here,
the stuff that does not go down the line, into the cans or freezer packaging,
goes into a dump truck. which drives to another business that processes that
for oil, fertilizers etc.
there is 1 stop-sign on a bit of a hill , there some fish-waste, drains out,
back down the hill .
I often pass that intersection, on my way home.
it would be weird , if there were no water and fishing boats,
but here, it's part of the locale 'color'.

On rare, seasonal occasions while mountain biking in the woods, I come across strong deer musk where they have been urinating. You know it when you smell it...
