What do you drink????

First the weather in Denver rocked today and tomorrow its going to be 70 degrees!!!! So today I took my mountain bike out for a little run (just got it back from the bike shop) and normally I take water to drink when riding. What do you take on your rides??? Do you take a sports drink or water?? I'm just curious. When I got home I realized that I didn't drink a whole lot, but I was pushing myself alittle so my mind wasn't telling my body I was thirsty. I do drink a good amount of water thru the day too.

So what do you prefer???

PhattTyre 01-19-05 07:12 PM

Water before and during, Gatorade after a long ride.

I go out the same way. I tried drinking sports drinks during a ride, but It doesn't agree with me.

randya 01-19-05 07:39 PM

Beer, water, mo' beer.

Water, gatorade, maybe a soda once a month after a 50 miler in the summer+, followed by more water.

Now how did I know that beer was going to come up.

Tried what my cousin does, he does Have gatorade, half water. Works good, that power bar stuff is good. THough the only problem with sports drinks is that they produce flemmy (not lugy like) and I need to keep spitting.

Phlegm comes from your respiratory tract, not your digestive. Are you inhaling the Gatorade? :D

I take water along and drink regularly. I prefer not to do the sports drinks because of the sugar.

SamHouston 01-19-05 08:12 PM

water...nuttin better for hydration. some things taste better for sure and electrolytes yadda yadda but if you're in good shape and properly stoked as far as fuel and hydration go before the ride there's no need to gum things up during the ride with anything but water and if it's a long ride a bit of fuel.

And Guinness for after

Bontrager 01-19-05 08:42 PM

I prefer a sports drink that includes simple sugars and 'lytes for long rides.

BlazingPedals 01-19-05 08:53 PM

I mostly drink water during. Club rides usually stop somewhere for a candy bar/snack. For long rides with no snack stops, I'll mix Perpetuem in my hydration reservoir.

Beer after? Sounds like a plan!

hoodlum 01-19-05 09:34 PM

Water during the ride, Wild Turkey Rare Breed after. You can't beat the kickin' chicken.

nnewton123 01-19-05 09:48 PM

water if under 30 miles. Something with carbs for longer rides in addition to water.

LordOpie 01-19-05 09:58 PM

under 2 hours, just water.

Longer: Cytomax, cuz it's got more electrolytes than most drinks.

Ride up mountains,
drink down beers!
:D

forum*rider 01-19-05 10:17 PM

Usually just water, longer rides I take a bottle or two of cytomax and a camelbak full of water.

Tree Trunk 01-19-05 10:27 PM

Power Bar Endurance sports drink during the ride and Power Bar Recovery immediately after the ride. It's not overpowering and is kind to my stomach. I really noticed a difference this past Summer when I started using it. I used to be a strictly water type, partly because my stomach couldn't take most energy drinks and partly because I'm a cheapskate!!

forum*rider 01-19-05 10:30 PM

That power bar drink sounds pretty good.

Hows it taste? And do you really notice a difference with the recovery drink?

And is there anywhere to get it for cheap $$$?

I take water bottles filled with water  and keep some IronBrew in my messanger bag if I am doing a long ride plus some BigTurk candy bars which really work well when rding I can't afford the fancy Roadie snacks and the Turks are supprizingly good :) , Steeker

my58vw 01-20-05 01:10 AM

I use 50 water and 50 gatorate in my camelback, 100% water in the bottles. Carry powerbars or other snacks for the road...

Filled with electrolytes! Yum!

Fugazi Dave 01-20-05 01:36 AM

Usually water, but I'll load up with Gatorade if I'm going to be out longer or if it's hot out and hydration is more critical.

CMcMahon 01-20-05 02:49 AM

Gatorade and water when I'm riding.

Jaegermeister, Heineken, and Hefeweizen when I'm not.

KevinmH9 01-20-05 02:58 AM

Usually water before ride, gatorade/powerade/water (one of those) during the ride, and then usually water when I get back. Then I tend to eat like a horse after the ride too  .
