Sorry if it's the wrong sub-forum, as I didn't one about clothing.

To ride in the city, I wear one of those long ponchos with sleeves (I prefer those with sleeves over capes) and add some shoe covers so that I'm totally dry when I get to my destination... save for the sweat when not in the winter time or when I have to ride up-hill. Besides, big ponchos are a pain when it's windy.

Is there such a thing as breathing/breathable ponchos, eg. Goretex, and compact enough to be used when commuting?

I use a cycle rain cape. it is a conic shape. my arms are under the cape on the bars
so my hands stay dry.
only seamless rubber gloves would do anything but leak at the seams.

because the cape is an open awning supported by my arms,
there is sufficient ventilation coming from under the cape
to use a waterproof material

being conic shaped there is not the surplus fabric flapping around,
like a big square fabric with a hood in the middle, poncho.
[or remains from US-Korean-War surplus, aka the 'shelter half']

Thanks for the links. I tried a cape, and prefer a poncho, ie. with sleeves.

I'll see if I can find something.

I used to long for a good cape back in the backpacking days. I've come close to dislocating a shoulder while trying to get a pancho on, and entirely over the pack. I haven't considered either for cycling, but maybe I should.
