Warning: long rant-like story of my dealings with Performance Bikes

OK here is what happened, first I buy a cheep ($600) road bike; The one they recommend turned out to WAY too big, also i discovered I did not enjoy road riding. So I wanted to exchange the bike for a MTB, which I now know thats where my heart is. I convince my mother to lay down $300 more and get a Giant XTC 2, while I figuring out what size to get I notice that one 19" xtc2 has an XTR r/d while the one I an on (a 17") has an LX, the sells drone says some blah... blah... blah... about rapid rise so in like "uh.. OK" and I put it on lay away (I pick it up tomorrow) And I just found out THE LX IS 100 GRAMS HEAVER THAN THE XTR, I don't care if the bike is 26lbs, thats a FIFTH of a pound. So I am going to implore them to change it out. <hand on bible> I promise that from this day forward I will NEVER buy a bike form anywhere than a LBS!!!

On a more positive note, I got $70 worth of coupons and another $90 are on there way(new shoes)

And I am joining my schools MTB race team.
Also the frame itself is 1400g how light can this bike go, and would it be worth it vs. geting another bike in the future.

If the bike works for you dont upgrade. its funny though, theres so much marketing hype 3/4 of the sales people believe all the BS. Thats one thing i can say about my bike shop, they are the ONLY ones who have not rambled about how good XTR and mavic crossmax is. Infact they even said its a waste

Oh, it's not like I want to, I got this bike for MY enjoyment.
But, I don't know how much of a factor it will be for racing if I get really involved.
And, if I get some lighter parts on it I WILL NOT tolerate any thing being flexy because I can feel it and it drives me nuts.(this was an issue with road bike)

I dont know flex to a point never bothered me that much. I dont even think i realize its there if it is, i hear people always saying how the SID is really flexy. I have no problem with it though

Go ahead and upgrade. It sounds like your mom can afford it and the LBS would love the business.
You feel better about your ride and the local economy gets boost to hold them over until your next whim.

According to the Shimano USA website, the XTR derailer comes in two versions that weigh 198 and 205 grams. The LX comes in one version that weighs 278 grams.

According to the Performance website, the XTR rear derailer costs about $135. The LX rear derailer costs about $44-$57 (not sure why the price range).

That's about $80-$90 for 80 grams. Less than 3 ounces.

Unless you don't have to pay for the upgrade or are getting a discount?

No, it's without charge; also it's pulleys have bearings instead of brushings.

Well I got it , when I came to pick it up I was about to bring up the r/d when I noticed that the bike now had an XT on it!? I guess the mech that I talked to on my previous visit switched it so I am happy. I got home and have been messing with all of the adjustments like the shifters, fork, and saddle position all night.
Anyway it is 25lb and that is more than fine with me!
Tomorrow morning the fun begins!!!
