Torx Bolts vs Hex Bolts
Is there any advantage to using torx bolts for bicycle applications over hex bolts? Say with affixing rotors to hubs or chainrings to cranks? I've found that they strip much easier. Thoughts?

don't know how it applies to bicycles, but in the automotive world I have seen more low torque fasteners going to torx style heads-keeps the kids from over-tightening them!

I hate torx!
I used to deal with machines that used primarily torx bolts. They would strip, bits would get stuck in the worst places, and good quality fasteners/screwdrivers would just get ruined.

The advantage is they are less likely to strip. In using ball end hex wrench when the wrench is at too much of an angle it can slip and destroy the bolt, and of course mixing metric and SAE can cause absolute hell. Torx fits only Torx and you can't strip it by coming at anything but straight in. Ball end hex wrenches are fine for spinning a bolt in but not for tightening.

Ben had issues with a Torx head in low grade steel, I suspect.
I went down to an Industrial Hardware store, and Get 8.8 steel bolts when it matters .
External hex..
Torx is the more common Machine screw to fix Discs to Hubs.
Useful is a Click preset torque wrench , for 5mm bolts , the bits can be changed
Allen or Torx.

Some obviously were, others were used too ofter, for what ever reason. Or simply, my experience is limited to what i was working with.
However, I think, square bits are king.

Torx is just another type of head. There are really too many. Over the years I have delt with allen, 4 flute bristo, 6 flute bristo, metric allen, and torx.
For a cyclist, I would remind you that 99%+ emergency tools are metric allen, therefore I would stay away from torx, and stay with the metric allen.

I've only seen them on wood screws though..

Of course the other end of the tool can be square ,
like for 1/4. 3/8, 1/2" drive sockets.
