After two years of collecting a hefty bonus for oncall duty, I purchased a $3k carbon fiber road bike that is more bike that I can handle. But I really like it and I don't care what other people think. I earned it.

As others have suggested, you could downgrade and spend the $ on something else you want. Otherwise, enjoy it.

Ah yes.... Silicon Valley, where so many people make a lot of money and have warped sense of values. With the high cost of living, the first million doesn't go very far, does it?

It costs me more money to ride a bike to work than to use public transport. It also takes longer and public transport in my area is reliable too.

Yet I still bike to work coz it's fun, but mainly coz I get no other time to ride and it's a great way to keep the mileage high. I just bought a supersix which is pricey for me and I wont ride it much either, it'll be my inspirational/motivational/fair weather bike. That's just the way it is.

You should enjoy your bike!

Just finished fixing it up with some parts to fit me better and gave it a whirl in the evening. Loved it again and reminded myself why I got the mtn bike in the first place. Only thing I worried about was if my headlight was too bright for an elder pedestrian, and if my tire pressure was too low or slow.

I might really have put off biking longer if I sold this mtn bike, until I got interested in the roadie again. So now I can have 2 bikes for different occasions. Winnn.
Plus the alternative prospect of downgrading is a no-no.

The real estate values are higher and the money doesn't go far plus the property tax every year. San Francisco is about the same.

Rollie; Having these thoughts before you buy is one thing, having them after you own it is a waste of time. Listening to the tightwad crowd around here will only increase feelings of guilt and remorse, leading to several expensive sessions with a shrink. This will only aggravate the costs involved. So; get over it and enjoy what you already have. Ride boy, ride. bk

Is this like how I imagine my Fargo looks accusingly at me because we haven't toured down to Patagonia yet? Or even gone up to Whitefish? But I like riding it.

I do sometimes feel as though I'm one of those people who buy a Hummer and never go off road touring in it.
