Cycling addiction...bad?

For most of us here cycling is more than a hobby I think. More of an addiction, habit, lifestyle.

Do your friends, co-workers, family etc ever tell you to stop talking cycling for 2 minutes?

Sometimes, but I work at a bike shop. This would make a good poll.

No, but they point and laugh at me in my "cute outfit".

That's okay, I didn't pick them for the company bowling team.

People don't ususally tell me to shut up about it, though they do note from time to time that I am obsessed. There is occasional laughter at my shants or derisive comments about my being on a bike from strangers, but those who are malicious about it usually end up bleeding spontaneously. Funny how that is.

Co-workers are all pretty well.. How do I say nicely... The hell there not going to read this anyways pretty lazy and if it wasn't for the beer after softball they wouldn't play any sports so we don't talk about anything that requires them to uh? stand up. As for my wife she just rolls her eyes and turns up the volume, the same thing I do when she talks about running.

Ha ha...great stuff. My co-workers were the poor ears that had to listen to my excitement of new wheels on Wednesday. My girlfriend comes from the biggest cycling family I've ever known so she's completely used to it.

My co-workers have a curling team. Ya...curling.

Why would you spend time with any one who would want to STOP talking about cycling for two minutes ?

What problem?

I own a brand-new $35,000 Jeep I haven't driven for six months. I put it in storage because I wasn't driving it.

Other cyclists have told me to stop talking (or writing) about cycling. Other cyclists have even told me to stop riding so much.

I knew there were others out there some where !!

Maybe if we get a group together we can get a better deal on car storage?

Well, I only ride 3 of them. Of the other 3, two are quite old and not in the best shape anymore, and one is a tandem which no one will ride with me (plus it's got a bent crank arm).

I ride 3 of mine, but have neglected the .5 which is a unicycle. I did get on it while we had our 3 days of snow. That was interesting.

Sometimes I feel like a nerd telling someone a story about my difficulties with wrong tubes for 28 x 700 when I needed 23 x 700 and I think "They aren't a cyclist and I'm boring the crap out of them".

My garage is already full. Just moved my vehicle out to make room for bikes and stuff. That is what a garage is for - right?

I'm a government worker fulltime for 15 yrs. and a bike salesman part time for the last 8 years and no one makes fun of me. In fact, they think it's great and I get alot of questions from people who, oftentimes, become my customers. If anything, people ask me about my hobby when they enter my office with the framed cycling poster and other stuff in my office. I've had the pleasure of meeting and helping very highly placed officials in the store that I never would have met otherwise. My boss, an ex rider, now talks about going back to cycling since I started working for him about a year ago. During the Tour last year I kept giving people quickie lectures about it (i.e., different coloered jerseys). When the weather is nice (I live in DC) people ask me if I rode in and they often want to see my bike.

It shows people I have a life outside the office.

Im the same way I have a 97 ford p/u with 62,000 k"s on it. All I use it for is picking up household appliances for a scrap yard here in in town my buddy owns. My wife is tired of bikes everytime I show her a bike that someone droped off at the scap yard, its now what are you going to do with that. I usualy say hay baby dont make me choose between yus. he. he. Then I drag it through the house down to the basement find the ser#no. and anything else that will help me find out when it was made and the history of the bike. And if I get really stumped I post it on here and thats were the buck usually stops. I love it. And they can roll there eyes all the want

Actually, my ex-wife complained about every aspect of cycling: cost, time for training, rides, races, etc.

Get it? Ex-wife, hhhmmmmmmmmmmm.
