Is there bmx stem that will fit a regular bike amd use "stamdard" handle bar sizes?

I searched and turned up nothing. I want to put a bmx stem on my 83 schwinn probe but the one i have doesnt work with regular diameter bars. It seems that bmx bikes have a smaller diameter at the clamp point.

I guess a better questiom would be what straight/slight risen bars will fit a bmx stem? Seems like Ill either have to keep its sakae stem or get a 7 stem.

What exactly are you trying to do? I think your Schwinn came with a quill type stem -yes? So did you already install a threadless adapter? A BMX stem won't work with regular bars, a DH stem will.

The thing about Bmx is which one .. .833" or 7/8" steerer ID?

the bar clamp is often 7/8" instead of 1"..

The Quill to Threadless adaper thing was mentioned..

now for a MTB the current Stems are around a 1.125" steerer and the Bars are 1" or larger.
But you can Buy the blocky heavy Stems for those in the Down Hill Racing and cliff diving sector.

for that Look..

step #! 1) measure your stuff accurately and come back with Data.

do you want BMX Bars on your MTB? or what?

Nope just want the stem. I have a set of 1 1/2 inch riser bars. They came off a mongoose x250 mtb. Standard mtb quill stems sit too high and dont work with how the bike is set up. Or is normally set up. I might look in to threadless adapters and save some headaches.

Its the largest of the three frame sizes schwinn probes came in. Its a mtb/city bike. It has a schwinn letour crank, was running the deep-v swift arriv wheel set of the same mongoose. Kenda kwest front and kenda 838 rear tires. I carried over the shimano trigger shifters and deraileurs

I'm running a threadless / quill adapter on one bike. You can invert and slam a threadless stem on it and get as low as you want. Just trim off the extra height same as a threadless fork. Adapters run around $12.00

A stem can be $20 to $150 depending on what you want. Angle and length are your choice. Pick a stem that'll be compatible with your bars.

If that's still not low enough you can invert the riser bars and end up with a driving position lower than the upper headset. You're the guy in charge.

Im gonna check my LBS's for some. Hopefully a black one. The only thing to do now is get it painted and figure out how to do the wheels.
