The Peugeot appears to be the best of the three, however it is a very tall frame. The other two appear to be around 53cm or so. How tall are you and what size is the fixed you currently ride?

Kuwrahara is a known brand name to me, but not sure about the reputation of Spalding bikes. I'm assuming this is the same as the sporting goods company that makes balls.

Here's a couple in your area that look attractive to me.

This Lemond looks really nice, but it's a bit pricier at $350

I'm 5'7" as well, and I normally ride a 51cm frame. I can ride up to about a 53, but I find 51 to be best for me. Depends on one's actual proportions. That Peugeot is way too tall, however.

Can you post a pic of the frame you currently ride?

The steel road bikes are nice. But for commuting around Chicago, don't you want something that'll take fenders and racks, maybe with a little bit fatter and lower pressure tires?

I agree 51 cm is likely to fit you.

Around here, there is an old steel 10 speed Mongoose Hilltopper for sale that someone has fitted with 700c wheels and city tires. Something like that could be very practical.

I like that Spalding, actually. Tough old bike, clearance for fenders, and less than a hundred is a bargain if it works. Hard to go wrong snapping that up.

For some reason I cant upload any pictures?

A multi speed bike?

Mine is.

I can ride at 2mph, 3mph, 4mph etc..

another fun option;
http://www.amazon.com/Problem-Solver.../dp/B006GHF18C

yep, get that
and a multigeared rear wheel
and a derailer
narrower chain and front chainring
and a shifter of some kind, maybe an inexpensive friction lever

easily convert your current bike into a 1x7speed

Or pop an internal gear hub wheel on it. Maybe a Shimano Alfine 8 speed. Easy.

Looks shorter than a 53 to me. That looks pretty close to a 51, which is what I ride.
