Giant Revive Ultimate Comfort
 

I am a 65 year old male. Ride casually, 12-14 mph & 20-30 miles per ride.

I have been considering getting a recumbent. Recently I saw the "Revive Ultimate Comfort" bikes made by Giant. It seems to be a "hybrid" of the typical recumbent and a hybrid.

I would also consider a newer better hybrid. Currently I am using a Cannondale H600, 10 years old and I assume that the newer bikes are more comfortable and efficient. The Adventure 1000 looked very good.

Any suggestions and experiences would be appreciated.

The "Recreational and Family" section has also had several recent threads on newer designs to make bikes more comfortable, including the Electra Townie, and the Trek Sole Ride.

I talked with a dealer that sells the Giant and Electra models, and he said both versions have been very popular with adults who have been "away" from cycling for awhile, and are looking for comfortable bikes for recreation and relaxation. You might want to ride several models to get an idea which is a good "fit" for your needs.

While I'm not 65, I've ridden the Revive and found it to be a very comfortable bicycle. It's slow but a person buying this type of recumbent is not looking to go fast in the first place. I like recumbents in general but I wish the Revive were a little lighter because it weights about 35 lbs which I consider excessive. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the revive was closer to 40 lbs!

IMHO, get a real hybrid or a real recumbent. Don't get a hybrid-hybrid. The Giant will suck for 30 mile rides.

I sell the Revive(That is a disclaimer) They have been popular amoung our older customers. We have sold several to chiropractors looking for a bike that would not put loads on the back.

My wife has been riding the Revive for about 6 months. She just can't sit on any regular type of bike seat and is not yet ready for a recumbent. She finds it like sitting in an easy chair. She has been able to ride it up to 10 mile rides. The biggest issues are the weight, which makes every hill a challenge, and the upright position means every little breeze seems like a big wind. However, it gets her on the bike and she loves it.
