Have you ever thought how much you speed on cycling clothing

I have 2 pairs of ultrasensor shorts (1 bib one normal), thermal fleace tights, arm leg and knee warmers, shoe covers, 1 team bib, 2 pairs of cheeper shorts for work (bike officer) 4 jerseys, 2 jackets, 4 pairs of socks and a rain jacket. Total cost over 800 dollars.

I can not imagine in a few years how much I will have. BTW I ride 5 days per week.

I have never used, and never plan to use any cycling clothing EXCEPT the shoes for the clipless, and the gloves. When you get into cycling socks all your wearing is regular socks with the mavic logo slapped on and a price raise .

Hello my58vw. I'm just down the road from you in Corona so considering the weather we deal with, our clothing requirements are just about the same. I've spent just as much as you on about the same stuff, but I don't ride as often as you do. One of everything (except socks) fits the bill for me.

I've never balked at getting sports-specific clothing, especially for cycling. Besides, a lot of it is multi-use.

I also use my tights, long-sleeve jersey, jacket, raingear and shorts for backpacking, skiing, skating and running. Gloves can also be used (in addition to the other stuff) for canoeing.

Shoot, I even use my old cycling shorts (with the chamois worn out) under my wetsuit when I scuba dive!

High quality cycling clothing also seems to last forever. I "outgrew" my last jersey and now my son wears it. It's bright orange and it still looks fine.

I feel that in all, it's a very good deal. Hmmm. What's Primal Wear's web address again?

It is considering it lasts along time (longer than most clothing). It can go from hot to cold in a flash. We can ride in 70 degree weather to 40 degrees in a few hours. Of course you can get excessive with clothing...

I have a jersey from the local advocacy group, an Adidas soccer shirt, and a pair of baggies, and clipless shoes. Total: about $90. I don't like buying clothes that serve only one purpose, but it really helps the long rides to have something (chamois) between the saddle and my loved ones, and I hate the feeling of sweat-soaked clothes.

I buy all my cycling stuff (except helmets and gloves, I buy them new) at the thrift store. I typically pay between .99 and 4.99 for shorts, 1.99 and 6.99 for tights, 1.99 for jacket, .99 to 6.99 for shoes, and so on. Most of the stuff I find is new, it even often still has tags on it.

First of all, you can find a plain new jersey at pricepoint for $20. You can find some pretty good shorts for around $30. Cycling socks, as phantomcow2 said, are not the best value. I found some tights for just under $40 and got a cheap Under Armour knockoff at Wal-Mart for maybe $15.

I've learned that anything that says "cycling" on it is almost always overpriced. You can find things like jackets, socks, under shirts, or even regular old shirts (if you don't want the pockets in the back, but that's what's great about cycling jerseys) elsewhere and they will work just fine. You can use old socks for leg warmers.

I find that good cycling shorts make the difference in a good or bad ride that is why I spend money there. The jersey I do not care about nearly as much... I still wear my ripped jersey I wore when I was hit by a car...

The wicking factor..Jersey's are as important as shorts..Not only do I hope my wife has not figured out how much I spend of cycling clothes..I would rather not figure it out...
Jackets alone is a chunk of change. Windstopper jackets for an example.But, they really feel great on a cold ride. Wish I would have had that jacket when it snowed on our ride at Death Valley in March.

If you like cheap cycling clothing, NEVER, EVER, buy and/or use a high end short, shoe, sock, shell, glove, helmet or jersey. There is nothing wrong with cheap clothes, but don't think there is no difference.

I don't know how much I've spent on cycling clothing and I don't even buy the good stuff I go for the performance/nashbar house brand stuff on sale. I also use a healthy mix of stuff from Target and Walmart in the winter when I am layered up and I find it does the trick. I also have purchased bike shorts from Modells for 20 bucks a pair and they are doing fine. My nicest item is definitely my long sleeve wool jersey though and even that tapped out at only 40 bucks.

Interesting enough I buy cycling clothing more than regular clothing, I also take care of my bike stuff better. And as far as cycling socks all I have are smartwool socks (from Sierra Trading Post)and cheap coolmax socks from Target and I use them on and off the bike

My windstopper jacket is twice the cost of my regular Performance jacket - Ultrex , whatever that is..(that on sale). But on a crappy weather day, it is worth it.

I tend to buy more cycling clothing right now then non cycling clothing. I do not have a variety of jerseys, etc.

I am very particular on chamis in my shorts... jerseys are also a big deal...

You will not know the difference until you go better...

Just like shorts to bibs...

There was a fella who used to ride his bike around San Antonio on a regular basis. He became "front page" news, because he basically went with the: "Who needs clothes to cycle?" option.

There may be some people who look good riding a bike wearing only a "speedo". He was not one of them.

So, the City Council of San Antonio wanted to enact a "dress code" for riding a bike. I think it actually applied ONLY to this one guy.

JACKETS: underestimate ---- up to $120.00 Socks: up to $12.00; but now found same hig-end name at $10 - 11.00 elsewhere. JERSEYS: good estimate, on Your highest end ---- as My standard cost. SHORTS: I wish that P.I. / ASSOS at My shop was that cheap.

Literally the only cycling specific clothes that I have are the REI chamois shorts that I gost on clearance for $18, and the vintage ASSOS jersey that I got at the thrift store for $3! Score!

All my other clothing such as synthetic t-shirts, windbreakers, long underwear, 1/2 zip polarfleece, is multi use clothing. I use it biking, skiing, backpacking, etc. This clothing is multi use and functional for almost anything, so it is not really specific to anything.

I also frequently ride in jeans or carharts, some more multi use clothing.
