Hanging bikes on walls?
 

Hi guys,

I am anticipating a purchase of a mountain bike soon. However, in my room and home, space is a premium. I don't want to keep an investment of a few hundred dollars outside, open to the elements and prying eyes, but I can't keep it on its wheels at home, either.

Does anyone here hang bikes from walls? A lot of musicians hang guitars on walls to save space. Would a couple of those screwy hooks work well to keep the bike firmly planted on the wall?

Loews has a handy dandy bicycle wall rack that folds up when not in use for $4.99.

It balances the toptube with two fingers.

Home Depot used to have them, but I haven't seen them there lately.

It needs to go into the studs on your wall, or onto a plank which goes into the studs.

The wall mount mentioned in a previous post works well from what I've seen. Two hooks on the other hand don't work as well, because it allows the bike to bump the wall and after a while, it marks or damages the wall. I have discovered Home Depot or Lowe's sells what I believe they call ladder hangers, that attach to the ceiling, and allow the bike to hang upsidedown over a couch, TV, or bed.
I think I attached a picture of the hangers I have in my garage.

I was hoping to attach them sideways on the wall, so as the bike remains flat against the wall (at least mostly, as the handlebar/front wheel still would poke out a bit). The ceiling idea is another good one, but sort of makes me feel claustrophobic!

As an unrelated aside, what kind of a car is that, Serotta? :)

The picture below is out of date (I've moved twice since they were taken), but I still use the same hangers with the same bikes on the wall with no issues. I didn't find studs, I just used heavy-duty molly bolts that did an exceptional job of anchoring the mount to the drywall.

The car in the garage is a 1967 Austin Healey 3000.

I saw mono's hangers at Home Depot, also.

I also have the wall hangers from Lowes like monogodo.
Love 'em.
Can't beat 'em for the money.

THAT'S IT! I purchased three of those for the price of one bike brand rack. It's 1/10th the price of the wall hanging or floor standing racks found in bike stores.

LOL...my thoughts exactly!

My wife and I have this conflict..I think bikes on walls are deco art...Love that look...Guess, I would do such in the den/computer room...Who needs art work...So far I have not prevailed...Single guys might place such on walls in the living room?
But then, w/o the bikes secured to the u bold in the garage, I would not sleep as well at night..

I have made a modification since the picture was taken...the drywall screws on one of the racks pulled out dropping the bike. So I put up a piece of plywood (painted to match), screwed to the studs, and then used fresh drywall screws to mount the racks to the plywood. I also hang both bikes nose down. Works well...I'll have to pull the plywood and repair when we sell, but it won't be bad.

In what section of Lowes can I find these in? Sometimes the staff at the local store is quite busy. Thanks in advance.

I got mine from Home Depot, and found them in with the other hanger-type stuff, like for hanging tools & other crap.

Hardware. It may be an end-cap.

Actually they were not in hardware. They are in the storage section with shelves and bin's and stuff. In my Loews they were in asile 31.
