Cyclist attempts to outrace police

Don't blow through a stop sign in Austin:

The phrase "low-speed chase" cracks me up for some reason....

Seems like I've seen comments to the effect that the video above is a fake- not actually a cyclist in the original video or something like that.

So the cops got lucky while profiling cyclist as bad people and snagged a druggie/dealer on a bike. Not mention the guy made it easy on them by taking off and giving the cops probable cause to arrest and search him.

Not much of a chase. The guy didn't seem to know what he was doing or where to go.

There is another video on youtube that shows the same chase but with a car instead of the cyclist. (The car does not make it.)

The site of the accident is northbound I-5 in California just before Gorman off-ramp. The freeway is uphill in that spot. You can estimate the speed of the "cyclist" by counting lane markings in the first few seconds of the video. I got somewhere around 50 to 60 mph.

Can't find the accident in news archives but it's a fairly old video, 2007 or older.

stupid druggie cyclist
if you know a neighborhood well
including alleys and shortcuts through yards and whatnot
and have a 2 second head start
you would have a chance of escaping

but to actually try to outrun the cops on a bike
while they are in cars
is moronic

If you got to pick the time and place when the cop was going to chase you, I would think you'd have a good chance. But just at some random time and place, not so much. Just like driving.

I was going to post what a waste of time for the cops. But after seeing that he had illegal drugs, more power to the cops. Dont put him in jail so the taxpayer have to feed him. Just give him a really big fine.

I like that he got through the trucks but I don't like that he put others at risk.

Yes the video is an obvious fake. Here is a video of the same chase, not the exact same angle so there must have been 2 helicopters chasing him. Interestingly not only is the cyclist fake, the police car is fake too. That car in the original video is the one being chased by the police.

If you want to run from the cops on a bike, don't stay on the main road. It's not like I've done it before, but that's what I'd do. Hide behind a house, or somewhere to make him get out of his car, and then make a break for it. But it would totally suck if the cop calls it in for his buddies to identify you when they see you.

Damn I can't wait for GTA 5 to come out.

I thought the lead police car looked wrong. Now I know why.

It also explains the actions of the trucker, which made no sense with a bike.
