She wasn't going to let me win

Today was a beautiful sunny say in southern california. I took my mountain bike out for a leisurly ride to test my new GoPro3 black edition. I had ridden about 20 miles and I was on my way to get in another 20 miles of hills at a slow pace. I was riding along the south bay bike path doing 11mph when I came upon a female riding a hybrid type bike.

I wasnt paying any attention to her because my eyes were drawn to a few ladies laying out on the beach.

As I got alongside the female cyclist I heard her say "oh no you dont" and then she accelerated away from me.

About 3/4 of a mile ahead the path ends and I saw there basically keeled over and gasping for air, haha.

I smiled and headed into Palos Verdes for my 20 miles of hills.

She did beat me to the end of the path though.

You found a girl that likes to ride bikes and likes to have fun? Track that girl down and propose to her without delay.

I pulled over and told her that I'd never seen such athleticism. I said she'd won fair and square and pulled her prize (a PowerBar) from my back pocket and offered it to her pretending it was on a silver platter. Laughing, she accepted it and asked my name...
optimized it for you

The odd part is if this was a another male rider many people would be vilifying him for violating the inside biking rules about challenging strangers to races and blah blah blah.

Perhaps, though some will probably see it as a Cat 6 challenge...

Does PATH racing even count? Nice story, though.

I have come across some seriously fast cyclists on that path before. In fact, I used to regularly see a semi well known pro ride along there.

Personally I have only engaged in a few races but i'm kinda slow.

This encounter was totally out of the blue and very unusual.

You never know. In my youth, decades ago, I had a young lady drop me on the steep hills on Sunset near the 405. That hurt.

I was once on a club-sponsored early season century, as a warm-up for TOSRV. Around the 60-mile mark I thought I was gonna die battling a fierce headwind, when a girl from the club pulled up next to me and offered me a 'pull' - she to take the lead into the hellacious headwind. I ended up riding with her for the rest of the ride, talking about anything and everything, and basically just enjoying the ride. We did finish the full century and afterward she offered to make me a spaghetti dinner at her place... Of course I went! Ahhh, youth... That was 35 years ago, and I still remember her name!
