I will buy my first bike to use in city. I will use bike for mostly at paved roads, around 50 miles a day. (probably 2-3 times a week).

What I'm looking is a reliable, fast entry level bicycle. After going though alternatives, I can't decide between two bicycles, and would like to get your ideas about those.

For cannondale, it is quite famous, but for raleigh cadent ft3, I couldn't find many reviews.

Cannondale bad boy has a cooler look, and I like the body better, but its shifters are worst, and afraid to change them after 2-3 months, or even worse if they break while I was 30 miles away...

Raleigh looks good too, but best part of it is Tiagra component, at forums it is generally told that tiagras are more reliable than altus, and have much better precision. But still not sure that tiagra component would make such a big difference at long run.

So if you would have just those two options, which one of them would you pick? Shifter or Body?

I SERIOUSLY doubt you'll need to change shifters after 2-3 months. Altus isn't THAT bad. Tiagra "MUCH" better precision? Nope. Better? Yes. Much? No.

The biggest thing to think about is availability of the parts you WILL be burning up -- chain and gears. 8-speed is a LOT cheaper to replace than 10-speed. Plus, the C'dale is disc-brake equipped; they stop better, an advantage in city riding, and the pads last a lot longer.

Bottom line, while Raleigh DOES make a good product, the frame is the heart of the bike, and C'dale is hard to beat. Don't be blinded by the flash of parts that wear out -- and they ALL do -- go for the substance.

Get the Bad Boy.

I just absolutely love the Bad Boy 9! However, I also love the Cadent FT series. That's especially the FT3 and the Cadent i11! OMG! I do see your dilemma...

While I do love the BB 9, right along with it's disc brakes. The one thing that I don't like about it, is its aluminum fork! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to cast my vote for the faster and sleeker looking 10 speed with the Tiagra gruppo and the CF fork. I therefore, cast my vote for the Raleigh Cadent FT3!

Specs are good, I told them that what I look is reliability, and they say this bike can carry me from city to city, it is quite all arounder, and can work through nearly all kinds of roads; and when you locked suspension, it becomes more of a city bike, just with 1,5 kg suspension weight...

So any ideas?

not a fan of suspension for riding roads. you look at the 'quick' line with rigid forks??

Agree. No suspension for road bikes.

I'd look into an entry level cyclocross bike.

There's your answer, don't over think it, just do it.
Assuming you're buying a bike because you want to have fun, buy the bike that you think will be the most fun.

One of the purposes of your first bike is to help you figure out what you want in your second bike. Ride the Bad Boy for awhile. Only then will you be able to tell if you love it the way it is, whether there's something about it that you want to change, or whether the whole bike was a mistake that needs to be replaced.

I think that if you go into a bike shop and just scan all the bikes they offer you will naturaly gravitate to the bike you see yourself on, of course its gonna be the most expensive they've got! once you see that then you go down from there till you find your style and price???
