funny thing that happened on my ride

Was out on a ride yesterday, and hit a part of the road that is sort of doesn't have anything on it, since it's behind the hospital, but leads to stuff. So it was a slight incline, and it was a leisurely ride, so im kind of taking it easy. Well, there was a motorcycle cop on the side of the road doing a speed trap. There were no cars coming, and I suppose he was bored or something, cause when I rode by and kind of nodded hello to him, he held his two palms up to me. I was perplexed, so I stopped, and asked "I'm sorry?" He smiles and goes, "Ten. I clocked you at ten. Slow it down, this is a hospital zone!" I looked right at him and said "I swear, officer... I had my cruise control set at six!!!"

Never saw a cop laugh that hard in my life....

That brightened my day, his, and I hope it made you smile too!:)

The town I grew up in had one of the major streets that was 25mph, and the Police were constantly running radar. Coming off the one intersection was a pretty good quick drop of thirty feet or so, then flat for the next three quarters of a mile to the next intersection. Our small town's speed trap. Of course, being a small town, we knew just about everyone - and that included most of the policemen - by name.

That stretch of road was on my way to just about anywhere I was going - riding my bike, of course. It got to be a game the cops and I played with me zooming down the hill to where he was running radar - and he'd yell out how fast I was going and laughing the whole time. I know for a fact that I never made it to 30mph on my trusty old Sears three-speed! 25 was doable with a stiff tailwind. I probably was over 25mph a dozen times or so... Pretty heady stuff when I was only 14 years old, riding a forty-pound all-steel 26" three-speed with wire baskets on the back! No sidewalks, no helmet... How on earth did we survive childhood back then.

Where did those carefree days go...

That reminds me... I have an interesting story to tell about how my dad got his panniers which I'm using on my upcoming tour... Another thread though

Funny story though. I guess I haven't been commuting or riding leisurely long enough to have any.
