Bruise that won't quit-happen to you?
Hello ... I fell about 4 weeks ago. I was hopping ONTO the bike and lost my balance and crashed. Duh! Anyhow... I really did a number on my leg. And I just bashed it today inadvertantly. Should I be concerned?? Bone chip??It's right below my knee cap--on the inside of the shin bone. It smarts a bit, still a bit black and blue and swollen. The good thing is that the numbness is diminishing.
Anybody else have this happen ?? well, the bruising, not the numbskull fall !

A 4 week bruise that won't go away would concern me a little. It tells me 2 things. (Please appreciate I have no medical training, other than my own life experiences!) A) you have chipped the bone and you have a fragment embedded causing constant irritation or B)You have very low iron.
Either way, a visit to see the Doc, (or Nurse Practicioner if you want to be seen in any reasonable time period,) wouldn't be a bad idea. Heck, go in for a physical while you're there!

I'm no doctor but I do play one on TV (just kidding).
I would have it checked out personally. I checked on the web site WebMD and this is what they said as general guidelines on bruising (also called contusions by the docs)
Consult Your Doctor If:
* You have a bruise that swells or is extremely painful, especially if you take blood-thinning medication.
* A bruise to a toe or finger results in a hemorrhage (collection of blood) under a toenail or fingernail.
* You notice that you're bruising easily or for no apparent reason.
* A bruise does not fade significantly within 10 days or fails to fade completely after three weeks.
I think the last bullet point applies to you. I may be nothing, but 4 weeks is a bit longer than usual. Probably nothing they can do for it, but it doesn't hurt to get a professional opinion. Good luck!

the blood under the nail is not really a "problem", it's just dead blood that has collected there. all you really have to do is drain it, but officially a doctor would say that that's not something you should do yourself cuz it could get infected if you do it wrong. But doctors also say that you shouldn't pop your own pimples cuz of spreading infection, and who listens to them??

i'll let you know how it goes.

Your persistent bruise sounds like a symptom of a bone chip or deep muscle or bone bruising. It will PROBABLY self-correct over time, but seeing a trusted, CONSERVATIVE (i.e., not knife-happy or money-happy) physician is not a bad idea. The discoloration may respond to elevation and gentle massaging. If you generally bruise easily, consider increasing your vitamin C intake through diet (preferably), supplements, or both.

back from docs office. I have a contusion and an inflamed bursa. Not much I can do ...ibuprofen and ice if it bugs me. Said these can take a long time to heal.
guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

Good thing you went- lucky it's not serious and it'll go away.
I'm one of those people that bruises very easily- I've always been that way. Everyone is diffferent- I see a bruise on my leg and it's yeah, so what. But if i had that kind of bruise, I'd go check it out too.

A bruise that does not heal could be an indicator of diabetes.
