Upper/Inner Hamstring Tendon Injury
Hey guys!
This is my first post in the forums and wanted to get some people's opinion on this injury I've been dealing with for the past 6-7 weeks. I'm making a nice recovery and will soon be back on the bike as my pain has almost totally subsided, so I'm at the point where I'm trying to figure out what caused the injury.
I was fitted and bought my first road bike at my LBS in the beginning of May and started riding quite a bit right off the bat. After 6 days of riding every day (average of 12-15 miles per ride), I started feeling a gradual pain in my groin/upper hamstring area during one of my rides. Eventually it got so bad I had to get off the bike and stretch out. Several more cycles of riding then pain then stretching, and I finally made it back home. After doing a lot of research it seems as though I injured a tendon in my hamstring, which I'm guessing is more towards my groin area because it doesn't cause any pain when I move my leg straight up and down, but twisting my leg or lateral movement caused pain.
Anyway, my main question is this: Could my Power Grip pedals have caused this? With the Power Grip pedals, you have to insert your leg at an angle into the strap, and then twist your leg straight. This causes your foot to be snuggly pulled into the pedal by the strap. Since I noticed the pain would occur when I twisted my leg like this, is it possible the Power Grip pedals are the culprits to this injury? I've been mountain biking for 4 or 5 years now and never experienced an injury like this. Any help/thoughts in general would be appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: It should be noted that while mountain biking, I always just used flat pedals. This is my first time using pedals that attach the foot to the pedal.
