I have a ford ranger with a toolbox so there's not much room to set a bike down in a good position. I put on a hitch but the bike rack wobbles way more than I'd like. The rack has to have an adapter to fit into the hitch. Anyone else have the same issues? Any fixes?

I used a very thin sock to take slack out of the hitch/rack interface. Put the sock over the end of the rack and slid it in. Cut out holes for the pin. It was a little difficult to remove.

You might be able to tap something in the gap like big toothpicks or popsicle sticks.

I thought about metal shims but I'd hate for that to vibrate out and turn into a bullet.

The gadget you're looking for is called an anti-rattle pin - it includes a threaded part which is tightened to take the play out of the hitch/receiver interface.

I have two hitch racks, an old cheapie and a nice new Saris and they both use a bolt in place of a hitch pin. The bolt threads through the receiver into the 2" extension on the rack and keeps it secure and wobble free.

Get the adapter fit accurately sized to fit as well as possible .. made to better tolerances..

go to someone that can measure.

if all else fails use some rope to tie it up to each side of your bed. do you have any tie-downs?

I found a solution and didn't even know I had it! Not sure if this came with my bike rack or something else but this piece fit right into the hitch. The wobble is now far less of an issue.

That looks like an adapter allowing the use of an inch and a quarter rack insert in a two inch box receiver. Were you using a small rack insert in a large receiver?
