45mph on flats. new personal record.

Well sorta.

While getting a bike fit the other day, the fitter told me to warm-up for 10 minutes, then he'd come back to make adjustments.

So I started riding my bike - which was on a trainer (with speedometer on it), going faster, faster and faster. 20mph, then 30mph... The trainer started sounding like a treadmill...

"Click - Shift" larger chainring, cruisin' 40 mph!!! (trainer humming pretty loud)... Now 45 mph (trainer now screaming loud) !!! Can I get 50 mph?

Then the bike shop employee walks by the room and gives me a dirty look.

Back to 18.

Trainers don't count in real biking.

Mark Cavendish was timed at 49+ mph in a sprint finish during a sanctioned race.

Now that is bada$$ed. I wonder what a trainer sounds like with him on it. Maybe like an F15 warming up?

Yeah - the trainer was obviously set up to facilitate fitting and not with the resistance set to duplicate actual riding conditions. I guess you got distracted - how did the fitting go?

no1mad went easy on you. He could have moved this to the 41.

Just insane. I hit 50mph once. Down a super steep, 1 mile downhill (side of a mountain).

I know, I know. Just trying to make people laugh on Monday.

Fitting went well. Almost immediately took away the knee pain I've had for a couple years. Still remnants of tendonitis, but that will probably work itself out over the next few months. Hopefully.

I know how to get my bike computer up to 45 on the flat - just install an additional spoke magnet.

double your speed

I was riding next to a guy with the same wireless CatEye cyclometer. All of a sudden I was doing double speed.

I hit 50 knots on my old Mongoose on a downgrade. Yes, I had my computer calibrated in nautical miles.

I was coming back in from a 200k, riding with a tandem. We came to the last bridge before the ride start, and the tandem captain says "Sprint across the bridge!" and the race was on. I hit 37 mph, fastest I ever rode on level ground, I think, that was with a light tailwind. It helps if you know you can stop in 100 yards.

Yes, this needs to be moved to the 41 and embellished with talk of massive guads and dialing it up to 400w.
