New Hermes Bike for only $11,200

This video touting the bike is priceless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvLfWB_M3LY

You might want to have one of those air motion sickness bags handy as you listen to this, ;).

coming soon to a craigslist near you for the low price of $14,000.

There are many people with more money than sense who are anxious to demonstrate it.

Christmas gift for thieves?

I think a super light weight non-racing bike may have a small market, but not at that price... Maybe at 1/10 of that price they would sell a few.

squeakyschwinn 11-06-13 10:12 PM

Wow. It's like a Bentley. Slower than the competition and excessive in every way, but still a work of art. I can appreciate the carbon fiber and leatherwork on it.

Rhodabike 11-07-13 04:45 AM

For that kind of money, I'd expect a Rohloff hub at the least. For a money-is-no-object commuter, I think this is a better bet:

A mere $5916 Canadian, and a belt drive option to boot!

Its definitely for a niche market but the price isn't out of line really. It's obviously a low volume production and CF frames like that go for $6,000 or so from just about any small producer. Price a Parlee, a Calfee, or the like for comparison. The limited number, probably handbuilt, but be closer to the Cervelo RCa which goes for $10,000 although it is very, very light weight. The leatherwork is very detailed and exact and I'm sure very high quality. So put all that handwork togther and its a lot

You guys, its a Hermes...Hermes sells $12,000 handbags. You can ride a cheaper bike and you can carry your stuff around in a paper sack too. Their market isn't cyclist, its millionaires that think it'd be fun to ride down to the coffee shop on saturday mornings.

Dudelsack 11-07-13 09:30 AM

If the designers were German, they would be Deutsch bags.

That's probably it. The bike probably only costs $2000, but all the leather they are putting on it, is what they are charging the additional $9k for. :)

Rather than the leather, I suspect it is the "Hermes" head-badge that added the $9k+ surcharge.

I know. They sell ridiculous cameras too. Neiman marcus is selling an aston martin this year too and they sell women's clothing. Doesnt mean its not a gorgeous car or bike. But yes, that badge does add to the price.

This is hilarious. If I could give you rep points or something, I would. For now, I nominate you winner of the internet today.

Back to Hermes...yep, that name badge makes the price go way up. Luxury brands.

Kanye West sold plain white tshirts with no logos or anything for $120 a pop and they sold out within seconds.

Fools and money are soon parted...or whatever that saying was.

catonec 11-07-13 09:12 PM

No thank you. not even for 1/2 price.

itsmoot 11-08-13 12:56 AM

I saw Hermes himself up on eBay a few years back, he only sold for a little over 4 grand.

  Are you implying that millionaires who ride down to the coffee shop on Saturday mornings aren't cyclists?? They're on a bike; they're pedaling; therefore they're cyclists!!

:D :D

Just playing around; couldn't resist. The cyclist/not cyclist discussion has already been beaten to death elsewhere. :D

Ha, well sure they're cyclists...but they might not have much in common with those posting in this thread. Of course, I could be dead wrong. Most of us here know you can buy a quality bike for a lot less...and perhaps people buying the Hermes bike know that too, but they don't care and just want it for the name.
