What is your bike or trike

What is your bike or trike, a tool, a toy, an exercise machine, a convenience, transportation, a gas saver, or what? In my case, most of those and maybe more.

Any you?

You refer to "bike or trike" in the singular.

So I have a question for you ... which bike or trike should we talk about?

Toy because I'm in it for the fun. All that other stuff that happens is gravy.

It started off as commuting for me and morphed into utility cycling.
Eventually I started working from home full time and had several more kids. Finally I started racing.
Racing, group rides, riding with my kids, and training for me. AKA sport.
I do not enjoy utility cycling any longer and would rather use my van for errands.

I ride mostly to get to work. Sometimes I would do club rides, go to the store
on my bike, take it with me when I go on vacations and also go on charity rides -
New York City Century, Bike MS NYC, etc.

Speaking of trikes... A few years ago, as I was commuting on an icy, snowy day in January or February I met a person who became a dear bike friend. Initially I named him "bearded recumbent trike guy" (brtg), though his real name is Peter. Anyhoo, I rode up to brtg as he was waiting at a stoplight. I was looking closely at his three-wheeled rig, and remembering all of the times I had dabbed and/or crashed because of ice and slush. "That thing must be awesome for icy winter commutes!" I told him, and we conversed until the light changed. brtg humored me and told me about where he got the trike, how much it was, and how much his 3 20" studded tires cost him. Many years later, I am still riding regular old diamond frame bikes in the winter, but I gained a lot of respect for the wisdom of recumbent dudes. I always give them a tip of the ol' helmet.

My bikes are my friends who don't complain when I hang them from hooks in the ceiling.
