My 2011 Schwinn Racer is "Lenore", the 2013 Racer is "Emma", the 2011 Trek Marlin SS is "Tank", the 2011 Schwinn Sid is going to be called "Sid" when the build finally gets finished, and my Schwinn Sanctuary cruiser is currently known as "The Phantom".
My wife understands my attachment to all things bike-related, but I'm sure she rolls her eyes when I mention them by name.

Ours is named 'Lexi' - short for dyslexic - for the way she (computer voice is female) mangles/mispronounces street or place names. For the life of me, I don't see how - when we were in Florida when we first used it - Tampa turned in to Panga. Panga??? Or when we were in the middle of the Tampa Bay Bridge, she was telling us to "Exit right, then turn around"

Only my touring bikes are named, I guess that's due to the long hours in the saddle...the mind wanders.
My '90 Schwinn Voyageur is named "Seabiscuit" because it's low, fast and ugly. My very decked out 26" tourer is called "U.S.S. Super Fred", though in polite company I'll refer to it simply as "Tanker".

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Forrest... because that was the name on the dyno label tag he came with, he worked for Shell Oil before he retired.
Edith... a 1957 PLX 8 Grande named after another beautiful French lady.
Reg... a 1955 Raleigh Lenton Reg Harris Road Model.
Stretch... for obvious reasons.
The rest are referred to by what they are, Cooper, Blizzard, Moulton, Moulden, Proctor, Garlatti, Raleigh (insert model), etc etc etc.

I couldn't give my Ibis a better name than the factory did. "Spanky" Love it. The GT Avalanche is the "Abominable Snowbike", my winter 'muter. My Gordon TT bike is Darth Maul. Haven't named the Miyata yet, she hasn't told me her name yet.

I've got an old BMX race bike that I've set up for mountain bike trails (mild trails) The thing was odd to begin with, everything is slightly off spec; the dropout spacing is too narrow (frame and fork), the bottom bracket shell was too tight, the brake mounts are a little too far apart and too far forward. I'm seriously think about calling it Gonzo, because it's a little blue weirdo.

My Trek 520: her name is Saoirse i Gcré-umha, which is Irish for "Freedom in Bronze," and is pronounced akin to "sorsha ig-KREE-uva." I usually just call her Saoirse for short.
My Fuji Sagres: in keeping with her Japanese heritage, and my first ride with her along the Ohio River, her name is Kawākari, which supposedly translates to "the gleam of last light on a river's surface at dusk" (it more literally translates to "river light," which I still like).
My Trek Stache 8: I just call him "The Dragon," for reasons that would be too obscure to bother explaining here.

My two singles are pretty simple names.
"white bike" for my road bike and "black bike" for my flat bar bike.
Our tandem is named "Snowman". About 10 minutes from the end of Smokey and the Bandit, Burt sees all the trouble they are about to get into and CB's back to Jerry Reid "Snowman" to back off and Burt will take the fall. Well Snowman goes off and says they always finish what the started and they are going to finish the run.
So our attitude on the tandem is we always finish what we start and approximately two years and 3,600 miles later that still holds true for us.

My Fuji is named "Gustav" for no apparent reason. It just sort of came to me one afternoon.
The Motobecane has yet to reveal it's true name to me. I'm still working out the kinks with that build, and perhaps it just doesn't quite feel relaxed enough. In due time...

Anthropomorphisms are acceptable in common everyday speech. It's okay to name your fishing rod, your car, or your favorite flowery meadow. The American Psychiatric Association doesn't list it as a neurosis, which is a plus. Transferrence, where childhood gaps are closed by inappropriate affection or emotion attached to something/someone else...well, that's a different story.
For professional writing or expression, probably not.
I don't name objects. But that's just me. I also don't refer to my favorite sports team as "we", as though I were paid to wear the uniform, too. Doesn't make sense to me...

Love these bikes, and their names! I would call that last one "Dragon", as well...though probably more due to the fact that the Bontrager saddle would tear my arse in half like a dragon's talons.

... had to inform a young poster who named her bike Lola,
that there was a song written about a Transvestite
with that name.
