It won't touch on my winter bike due to the handlebars and light mounts. I'm pretty sure my handlebars are wider than the pedals, too.

I'm not having that much trouble, since I have kickstands on all my bikes.. but I felt like I was missing something.

The rubber band setup wasn't strong enough for my bike, so I had my wife sew a couple of velcro straps together so I could wrap the front brake lever, it only took me once in forgetting to release the strap, in not doing it again.

You can turn the handlebars, and lean the bicycle.

In fact, if you turned the handlebars and bumped the back of the front wheel against the wall and leaned the bicycle so that the saddle touched the wall, that might work too.

Lots of different options, depending on the situation.
