Rough end of the pineapple

Having my lunch and just lying in the park near the Visitor's Centre. Saw this bloke pull up in a lime coloured Spandex, shaved legs and all the gear. Started to have a quiet chuckle to myself when I noticed he had saddle bags and a trailer. Then his sheila pulls up next to him. She's on a comfort bike with a seat that would make the grade in the first class cabin of a Qantas jet.

I guess he really does tow the line in that family. :D

You gotta understand Haagen, that this cycling thing goes way beyond what you and I are in it for. There's a whole political undercurrent associated with cycling. Just read the thread "Progressive Bike Companies?" in this forum to see what I'm talking about. Or better yet go to the Advocacy/Safety forum and read the "Just Say "No!" to the Chicago Car Show" thread. Balderdash!

This schtick is a real religion for some folk. It gets like real kooky man! :D Ya just gotta feel some pitty for them.

Don't encourage him to stray... staying in General Cycling Discussion is enough! :D

It means I know exactly where to go for the day's best bit of humour!

Good point. Besides, he may not be ready for some of that stuff just yet. It may send him into shock or something.

HaagenDas 03-17-05 08:31 PM

I'll go peak but I'll be back in my cage shortly :D

Hey, HD--Look around these boards a bit and you'll find:
* Lance Armstrong is the devil.
* If you use the wrong chain lube, you're the devil.
* Bike lanes are the work of the devil.
* Brooks bicycle seats are ass hatchets.
* Brooks bicycle seats are works of art worthy of Michelangelo.
* My good man, they are not seats. They are saddles.

It just goes on and on and on. But I agree it is amusing.

HaagenDas 03-17-05 09:42 PM

Well I'm back. That "Say no" thread is interesting. Not hard to draw parallels between it and and any self interest argument.. even gun control, political or global warming debates.

Just glad I'm biking again.

I do belive that Blackberry is the devil.

I warn you, sir. You will pay dearly for your specious charges. When I unleash my team of lawyers, you wont' know what bit you.

HaagenDas 03-17-05 09:55 PM

Satan needs lawyers? :D My goodness, things are stuffed up in hell aren't they? :D

Well, there's no shortage of 'em down there. He might as well work with what's available.

Blackberry 03-17-05 10:04 PM

You wound me, Haagen Das. It's almost as painful as when my wife and I took out life insurance policies on one another and she said, "Well, now it's pretty much of a waiting game."

HaagenDas 03-17-05 10:07 PM

:D We'll sort it out in Namibia or whatever :D

That actually comprises most cyclists. They're just not as vocal or "in your face" so to speak as the counter culture grouppo (pun intended). :D

Most cyclists still like cars, still eat meat and still like to have a good jousting session with the missus from time to time. :D We don't all want to go off and live like some utopia seeking crackpots in a tree hugging commune somewhere. That's soooo 60's.

forum*rider 03-17-05 11:32 PM

awww, we're just a bunch of guys(and girls) on bikes that just wanna have some fun!:D

And if that means hugging trees, well, so be it!:D

KrisPistofferson 03-17-05 11:32 PM

Shoot, a lot of the crackpots just like to ride bikes, too.

HaagenDas 03-17-05 11:38 PM

I'm a prime example.

KrisPistofferson 03-17-05 11:41 PM

You're one of my favorites on the forum, HD. That post about the collecting the dead guy's mail had me laughing for days!

Doctor Morbius 03-17-05 11:42 PM

I meant the other crackpots, not the normal crackpots! Sheesh!

HaagenDas 03-17-05 11:54 PM

You mean dead set weirdos, like my missus and stuff.
