Stolen Bike Advice

Howdy,

I came home the other day to find my 2013 Kona Paddy Wagon had been stripped of most of it's parts. The only thing left was the frame, crank and pedals. The bike was locked up with a u-lock and cable.

I'm waiting on the estimate from the bike shop on what it would take to make it a bike again, and the feeling I'm getting is that it'll be more affordable/practical to just buy a new bike, and try selling the bike frame. It's a shame, since I really like the look of the clear coat on the 2013 frame. I feel like if I get a new bike, I'll be letting the person that took everything but the frame win.

Thoughts on replacing the missing parts with new/upgraded parts, or getting a new bike entirely?

I'm getting married in a couple of months, so the timing couldn't have been worse.

If you have renter's or homeowner's insurance, check to see if the theft is covered. If so, you can get an estimate from your bike shop on the cost/value of the missing parts to provide with your insurance claim. If you have photos of the bike pre-theft, those could be helpful as well.

I was going to say this is a great time to upgrade the drive train but I'm not that's even a thing with single speeds...

But yes, rebuild. :thumb:

And sorry some creep made off with your stuff. :(

I always vote for replacing the parts and keeping it rolling, it builds the character of the bike. Take it as an opportunity to upgrade.

Sounds like the OP needs to find a donor bike and rebuild his current frame.

That's what I think too. If the donor bike happens to be brand new from a shop - so be it.
