We will be getting to St. Louis about May 10th. on our cross country ride as we are starting in Delaware. Any suggestions for an area to stay for a few days to see the city? We will be following the Lewis & Clark Trail.

Assume you're hotel-ing it - The Central West End is a good central location that's home to many of the things you'll want to see, and just a short ride from the riverfront. Lots of things within walking distance/short cab ride as well in case you're getting tired of your saddle. Lots of cool neighborhoods to ride through - Dogtown (Irish), The Hill (Italian), Delmar Loop (college/bohemian), Tower Grove/S. Grand (international/Asian), Soulard (historic/chock full of neighborhood bars), etc., and more places to eat and drink than you could possibly hit in a visit.

Hotels in the area range from reasonably economical ($100-124) to luxury ($250+).

I had a short layover at the St. Louis airport about 10 years ago... but, I'm guessing that doesn't count.

A layover in St Louis? What airline could that have been?

I'm frequently surprised at the direction of cities folks have to fly to in order to get somewhere else from St Louis.

I don't recall where I was flying from, but I was on my way home to California. The places I recall flying from during that era were Memphis, Orlando, Indianapolis or unlikely possibilities... DC or Minneapolis
