Dumb Question - Frame Pump On Bike With No Pump Peg?
I have a kind of retro-framed road bike - level top tube, downtube shifters and all - but it has no pump peg. Currently I am running a mini-pump that has a plastic bracket that straps to the top tube, but I would like to swap it out for a more traditional frame pump that rides under the top tube.
Of course the angle between the top tube and seat tube is less than 90 degrees, so that end is OK. The steerer tube, however, meets the top tube with an angle greater than 90. I found a frame-fit pump at Planet Bike Roadie, but I don't want to drop the credit card on it if it won't work. I haven't been able to find anyone that sells the add-on pump pegs any longer - Does anyone know of a source? Can anyone advise if this pump will stay on without a peg?

I just use a plastic zip-tie around the head tube. Pull it as tight as you can so it won't slip down and then cut off the excess length. The little nub of the zip-tie makes a perfect peg for my Zefal HP-X framefit pump carried under the top tube.

Without some kind of peg, to fit a pump under your top tube, it will have to go from the seat tube, to the headtube-downtube junction, so will slope down a bit and not be parallel to the top tube. If you had a slightly smaller frame it would fit better. You need to measure the distance and match to the right pump size.

I've seen riders use a small velcro strap to hold the front end of a pump like the Park pump up against the head tube/top tube junction: Park Tool Co. » PMP-5 : Dial Adjust Frame Pump : Pumps. Not quite as neat as having a peg, but it works.

Thanks. I might try the zip-tie idea. I have some pretty small ones that might work. I've been noodling this problem out and was thinking about drilling the steerer tube and tapping it for a small Allen-head set screw.......but a zip tie is easier.
I sort of like the Roadie pump I linked to, since it's available in different lengths. I just remembered (Doh!) that I have a similar pump on my Long Haul Trucker, and since it's probably pretty close to the same top tube length I may try that one on for size.

Zefal made a pump peg-plastic hose clamp piece .. it may still be sold ..
I've fitted my old Silca Impero frame fit pump in the seat tube position ..
with a two-fish velcro-rubber block strap thing to keep it there .
Little bigger saddle bag and the Minipump will fit in it.

Retro frame, go with a Frame Pump Umbrella Clip. Plenty on Ebay and elsewhere. AFA was a very common brand that can usually be had for about 5 bucks. Campy made one too; probably priced higher. Other varieties also bolted on, but had a pump peg instead of the round umbrella clip.

Hey guys. What a deal I've got for you. I am in possession of 3. Count them 1-2-3. 3 - Genuine Zefal black plastic strap-on pump pegs. NOS. Never installed, still has molding flue. They aren't marked but given their age I'd say they are for 1 inch frames only.
They are free to the first 3 requestors. One per requestor only, unless you've got a real good story. Shipping included. US only. Sorry but this piece of plastic isn't worth the hassle of international post.
I think my PM is set up. So send me one and I'll send you one. Or tell me that it didn't work and we'll figure something else out.

Gave a couple of old Zefal HP pumps and variety of mounting bits to Freewheelin Community Bikes this Winter. No AFA clips but I do remember using those on a bike or two. Worked well.
Gosh but I like the three different Topeak Morph pumps I have - one for each bike. (Mini, Road and Mountain)

I used a leftover frame mount from a lock to attach my frame pump to my recumbent trike. I also found the following bike light holders to be invaluable in cobbling attachments. The company is in China and I did buy a couple of them just to try out. There are domestic sellers on eBay for the same products. Shipping from domestic suppliers is much faster but a bit more expensive.

I can't help you with the peg, but I will throw in another pump for consideration just to confuse things
Amazon.com : Zefal Classic Frame HPX-3 Bicycle Pump (Silver/Black) : Frame Mount Bike Pumps : Sports & Outdoors
How's the bike treating you? Still like it as is, or have you been forced to upgrade anything? Apart from the saddle i.e.

I can't get a zip-tie around the head tube tight enough to stay put, including pulling tight with pliers, even when I put a layer of tape under it.

Mine has stayed in place for a few years now - they come in various widths and I used a fairly hefty one. If slipping is a problem I'd think a strip of rubber cut from an old inner tube would work better than tape.

I always looked at the pump pegs on the head tubes of my Bianchis and felt they were incomplete without a frame pump to engage them. Nowadays, I have frame pumps, but I prefer to mount them along the seat tube, from bottom bracket junction to seat cluster. Go figure...

Skip the entire "pump on the bike". Strap the pump onto yourself. One of these days, jersey makers or back pack makers will find a solution. But in the meantime, strap the pump onto yourself. I see more types of lumbar bags being in use by riders these days.

Personally, I've converted to using the Morph pumps completely. I used the Zefal pumps years ago, and then switched to Silca pumps for many years. The Morph pumps are light years better than traditional frame pumps.
"Retro" is all well and good, but when you're fixing a flat in the rain 30 miles from home you just want something that works.
If you don't like it hanging under the top tube (I don't), tuck it beside the water bottle on the seat tube. There's a surprising amount of space there.

Double sided carpet tape, or tape for installing golf grips, or a touch of epoxy , or super glue under the zip tie. Trim or wipe off the excess.

it tucks right beside the bottle holder cage. it's out of the way and doesn't interfere with anything.

Have a lezyne carbon drive on my road bike, with a bracket that fits nicely next to the seat tube water bottle cage. The pump & bracket weigh about a hundred grams and are mostly in the water bottle's slip stream - most of the time I forget it is there.
