1. Pee Wee's Big Adventure - the greatest film every made about a boy and his bicycle.
2. Breaking Away - the greatest movie made with bicycles in it.
3. Triplets of Belleville

Honorable mention: 6 Day Bike Racer (1934)

Dishonorable mention: American Flyers, Quick Silver and, sorry to say, Premium Rush. Dogs all.

I like them all. But American Flyers with a young Alexandria Paul in it to look at kinda made it for me. Not much of a Pee Wee fan tho.

"A Sunday in Hell" -- documentary on the 1976 Paris-Roubaix spring classic.

"Breaking Away" -- great movie even if you're not into bikes.

"Triplets of Belleville" -- another great movie even if you're not into bikes.

"Les parapluies de Cherbourg" -- charming movie featuring a very young Catherine Deneuve and an all-song dialog.

Goldenboy
Golden Boy Op - YouTube

the component details are clear enough that I can recognise most of them
but the frame itself still eludes me
you'd think that the 2 color paintjob would be a giveaway ....

Yes, Triplets of Belleville.

I only like American Flyers because if the scenes shot here. Colorado National Monument, Rimrock Drive "Tour of the Moon." We laugh at it because they have the route all out of sequence: they're climbing up the east side, next shot they're climbing up the west side, ha! I went to a showing of this film in Montrose, CO and a guy who was one of the race extras was there to give a talk about his time on the set. I forget his name, but remember the guy who crashed in the background, his bike going over the edge? That was him. He didn't mean to do that.

It's available on Nerflix. I'm hoping to ride(not race) the Great Divide in a couple years.

I'm glad I could bring you a bit of joy. Well, indirectly, anyway. My friend and I made the berms around the houses under construction that they used in chase scene. My house was in the movie several times and I almost screwed up one of the shots. Good times.
