Hi...I have a cannondale quick cq 3, I would like to be a rear rack and get a bag that can be easily detached and maybe have a shoulder strap,a place to store helmet and a another water bottle holder would be cool also. I really would just like room enough in the bag for a lock up chain and multi tool/tube and repair kits. I have an seat bag for shorter stuff, would like this other bag when i will be out for the day making some stops. I have started researching these on amazon/ebay and there are endless amounts of bags...i would just like to know from you all what ones u like or dont like ...thx

I've been very happy with my Topeak Explorer tubular rack with one of their MTX TrunkBag DX bags. The rack is very stable and the MTX bag just clips in, so it's easy to remove and replace. They make a "DXP" model of the bag that has panniers that can be unrolled from the zippered side pockets for even more storage. The MTX bag also comes with a shoulder strap for easy portability when off the bike.

For a pack, I like my Jandd Rack Pack II. Constructed well, has loops for a shoulder strap, and I like the 4 corner velcro connection to the rack. It is easy to mount, easy to remove, and stable while on the rack. This type of connector works great, especially on a wide rack. No bottle holder, but it is insulated, so throw a bottle in the bag. No strap included, but if you are like me, you have a couple laying around.

I really haven't had good performance from any bag that connects with straps that cross under the rack platform, and I have seen people who add bungie cords etc to try to make them stable... including myself. I don't need that with the type of connector on the Jandd.

Bought independently a few years back, but I also like Jannd for the rack. I use the Expedition, which is longer than the bag above by a couple of inches, and I haven't figured out how to effectively use the extra space on the platform yet, but I know I will be able to set panniers toward the back and avoid heel strike.. Their standard rear rack would probably be just as useful, and probably a little lighter with the shorter platform.

Have a Topeak Tourist Dx rack and recently bought the new Ortlieb Vario QL3 pannier backpack.Works for me.

I use a variety of racks; Pletscher, Bor Yeuh, Jannd, Tubus, Racktime, Wald, etc. My go to rack bag is a Banjo Brothers Expanding Racktop bag with drop down panniers.

i also have a Bor Yueh rack for 17 years. I have a Planet Bike rack on my mountain bike. My wife has an Axiom rack and bag on her road bike. We also have a Bontrager interchange rack, though we never bought the matching trunk bag that clips on.

Frankly, all the racks I own work equally well for day trips. Never used them for loaded touring.

Interestingly the Bor Yeuh racks are what I tour with. They came stock on my Giant Excursion. It was originally flat bar and I converted it to drop bar. I have another Giant, Iguana that I have converted to expedition touring use, it has Jandd Extreme/Expedition racks.

+1 on the Jandd Extreme/Expedition racks. Very solid racks. The Expedition rear rack is very long so you can place panniers well back of your heels. The only quibbles I have with them are:

1. The racks only come with a black finish, which is easily scratched. This is mainly an issue with the pannier hooks. But some people are annoyed by this sort of thing. I just touch them up with a sharpie every now an again
3. The Extreme rack in the front required some fiddling around to position how I wanted on my LHT. It also leaves very little room to spare above the tire (the stock Continental 700x37) and my fender is jammed right against the rack. If I were to buy it again, I would get the Extreme Tall Boy for the front, which has another inch and a half clearance (there is also an Expedition Tall Boy for the rear, but I have tons of clearance with the regular rack).

I don't worry about the black finish. I used Blackburn colored racks for years and the finish takes a beating. I have actually stripped a couple of them down using oven cleaner, then used brass/bronze wool to dress the aluminum to give it a brushed look. I really like the Jandd racks, the ones I bought were factory "seconds", supposedly they had scratches on them... I will take a 40% discount any day of the week. FWIW I didn't see any obvious scratches.
