    opinions on MEC bikes?

used the search function and couldn't find any recent threads discussing MEC bikes.
beginning looking to invest in my first bike for commuting/recreational purposes, stumbled across this on craigslist, couldn't find anything on the forum about it or MEC bikes in general.

50 cm cyclocross in great condition

    any experiences? opinions?

For manufacturing, they go to Asia like every one else .. MEC is the Canadian outdoor sports CoOp, similar to REI in the US.

it is a CL post from on the Canadian side of the border .. craig's list = go see it in person.

MEC = Mountain Equipment Co-op ? MEC ? Shop climbing, cycling, running, yoga and more

Good place for bicycle equipment ... and camping gear, and lots of other sports stuff.

I've had a reasonably close look at MEC's bikes in the past when I have visited the US. I've liked what I have seen.

To me, the bike linked to on craigslist looks pretty good. Sora is not exactly a high level Shimano groupset, but it's durable enough. The bonus is that it has the disc brakes, rack and fenders. The bare bike is listed currently on MEC's website at just over $1,000. See if you can negotiate with the CL seller.

Incidentally, ensure the bike fits you. It doesn't matter how good a bike might be and the equipment on it, you won't enjoy riding it if it doesn't fit you.
