Do co-ops trade?

This might be a silly question but I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with the people running the one here. Do co-ops do trades for parts, or is it all donations and sales? If I were running a charity I know I'd want to have the latter. But as a customer, would definitely want the former.

Since the purpose of most co-ops is to get/keep people riding bikes, they may be open to the idea, so I wouldn't be too hesitant to ask if I were you.

Based on your question here, I am sure this isn't news, but I would ask in a humble manner, starting along the lines of, "Would it be possible to trade parts?" instead of going in with "I have part x, do you have part y so we can trade?" And, depending on your parts bin, I would probably offer more in value than you receive to sweeten the pot when you get to the point of discussing details.

Be prepared for them to say no, but if you gracefully accept a no, I wouldn't think you would be stepping on anyone's toes.

Our co-op does not do trades with the exception of things like sold bicycles that may have been improperly fitted.

Never hurts to ask. The rules of any co-op is not set in stone. None are run the same.

I have swapped some parts with a couple of co-ops, every one is different. I also swap parts with my LBS too.
