Again, I'm not trying to make a political point or so.
I thought the admonition was in reference to:

Actually, none of the above . . . The admonition was general because of the possible direction the thread was heading

Creating bike routes involves a lot of local organizing as well as larger area planning. If you would like long distance bike routes ge,t involved . One group is the Rails to Trails Conservancy which is trying to convert some of the thousands of miles of abandonned rail track to trails. I mentioned the East Coast Greenway in an earlier post. It has taken about ten years to get one section of that approved. That's the section from Waltham out to Worcester.

Yes, this involves politics.

Yes, I contribute to "Rails to Trails". It amazes me why it takes so long to stop stupid politicians from scratching their fat undecided a$$es on this. You have miles and miles of unused railway tracks along corridors that are not used. They are so afraid, for some reason or other, to spend money on something so beneficial. It's a no brainer.

Sorry moderator, but I couldn't help saying it without getting into a political discussion which you won't get out of me. Besides, I don't want to talk about a bunch of people that suffer from a serious bout of $hit for brains.

If anyone is interested in long distance cycling routes (holiday style) through Europe, I am making tutorials for that. Using and combining various cycling websites on the national level (where you can find national long distance routes), you can plan a route through +4 countries in 2 weeks.

PM me if you are interested and be sure to mention which countries you'd like to see. Other specifications might also be needed, such as a time frame when you are available, which accommodations you'd like to use (hostel, hotel, b&b, couchsurfing, tent, ...), distance/day, etc...

One obstacle also to bike trails from what I have heard is that abutters to the rights-of-way often object to the trails, seeing them as hangouts for questionable characters. Of course the politicians could just seize the land by eminent domain for the benefit of us cyclists, though many serious riders disdain MUPS.

I was once refused admission to an AAA-rated campground, because cyclists could "steal things and get away quietly"; I got in because I was a card-carrying AAA member.
