Which Bike?
 

I owned a mountain bike for 5 years or so but over the past couple of years I found myself riding on a few different road/country lane routes ranging from 15 - 20 miles. This made me realise I wanted to get in to road riding more seriously so I sold my bike. I then had to decide whether to purchase a road bike with drop or straight handlebars. I decided for the latter in the form of a Specialized Sirrus Comp. This is a fab bike but after 4 weeks of riding I realised I had made a mistake and should have gone for drop bars. I am now in the process of selling my Sirrus and have decided to opt for either a Trek 5000 or a Specialized Tarmac Comp.

Can anyone advise what the best option would be? Alternatively, is there a better model within the same price bracket?

Ask in the road cycling forum. Or better yet, do a search of the forums, the answer may already be there.

Even better still, ride as many different bikes as you can and then pick the one you like best. As jeff-o suggested, do a search-you'll see these bikes have been discussed many times.
