I only had a few bikes and posted them with pics. Give it up and let's hear what you got in the stable.

I've had an on-and-off hobby of flipping bikes. There's no way I could remember all of them. I think I had over 40 at home at one point.

  • I think I had a Big Wheel.
  • I had a gray BMX type with a coaster brake, built for me by my bike hoarder grandad (who died age 91 from complications after being knocked off his bike by a car). I specifically remember it was a big occasion when he changed the crank for a longer one. Outgrew it.
  • A blue Murray 18-speed 24" mountain bike. Outgrew it.
  • A blue Novara mountain bike of 1990 or so vintage. Bent the fork at college in spring 1998 and gave it to a girlfriend when leaving for that summer, telling her she could fix it up; had broken up with her by next fall.
  • A blue Specialized Hardrock, 2002. Recently retired from commute duty and reshod with MTB tires.
  • A silver Schwinn Paramount, got it in about 2010 from my dad who bought it new in 1976
  • A bike trailer - does this count? Wife bought it for me for Christmas when she was pregnant, so it won't get used for the baby til middle of next year.
  • A green Schwinn Super Sport, a project to keep me sane during family leave with the baby. Have been contentedly commuting on it since August, which makes me feel guilty for not liking the Paramount as much.

Hrm... I'll bite.

Hot Wheels big wheel, circa 1980

Some kids bike with training wheels a year or two later

yellow and blue Huffy BMX style with blue tires and coaster brakes circa mid 80s. I rode the hell out of this thing.

Sears Free Spirit 10 speed - hated it at the time, but I asked for it and my parents bought it so I was stuck... rode it out of need until I had cobbled together enough money to buy...

Schwinn GT BMX bike - the first one I bought, in 8th grade with graduation money and lawn mowing funds. I think it was 4 or 500 bucks at the time, around 1990 which was a CRAPLOAD of money for me at the time. My parents were apoplectic about it, but man I loved that bike. Washed it every week I rode it, waxed it, wrenched on it, and rode it into the ground, did some BMX racing on it. Kept riding it through high school. Sold it for 250 bucks many years later when I was in college and had already moved on to...

1996 Gary Fisher Tassajara - Bought with high school graduation money. Ridged cromoloy MTB, cool flat maroon color with toe straps on the pedals. Did a fair amount of trail riding with friends in the summers during college, and it was my mode of transport while on campus at the U of Iowa. Replaced all the QR bolts with hex bolts after saddle was stolen. After college I moved into downtown Chicago and left it at my parents as I had zero room, time, or interest in riding. Career, beer, and girls won. Moved in with my future wife, got it back from my parents at age 22, rode it a little around the north side, and it was promptly stolen out of our garage when the door failed to stay shut when our flatmates left one night in 2002. Then began the biking desert in my life. Career and beer won totally at this point, and I packed on the pounds. Moved to Houston in
2007, and it got worse as I stopped even walking and bought a car.

12 years in a bikeless desert...

After a stark beatdown from the doctor last year, I took up working out and mostly hated it. Looked around and tried other things until I remembered... hey, I used to love riding my bike around! Then I looked at prices, so it took me a little time to rediscover biking in May of this year and bought...

2014 Cannondale Quick CX 5 Hybrid - I thought it would be a call back to my BMX and MTB days, and I still love it, but discovered that as an older me, I liked the road a lot more. I use it to ride with my wife and to re-learn MTB skills a bit. Discovering road riding lead to...

2004 Raleigh Grand Sport - Aluminum with Cromoloy fork Beater that I got for 100 bucks. Has old sora STI, but I replaced the wheels, saddle, stem, bar tape, cassette and chain over time, and learned to do my own work on everything but the wheels. All parts secondhand, I have less than 200 in to the bike and it rides pretty well. I figured I'd ride it till next year and pick up a new one before my goal of riding the MS 150 Houston to Austin in April.... but a generous relative that was impressed with my charity riding donated some cash so I could get a new road bike, so I bought...

2013 Felt z85 - My main squeeze. I think my wife is jealous My first new high quality road bike. Next year? The family expands, as I plan on getting a new MTB for the first time since my Gary Fisher N + 1 indeed.

I left off a few bikes too. Mostly bikes I had picked up at garage sales and gave to charity, bikes bought for relatives, etc.
