Has anyone bought one of these Blaze Laser lights?

https://www.blaze.cc/laserlight/

I've visited their site several times (and keep seeing ads for their company when I visit sites). It seems like a great idea but it is _pricey_.

In the UK it's £125 which equates to €160 or $200 (US). I'd pay €75 to have one just because I think it's cool, but €160 is way too much.

Not sure if anyone actually has bought one, but there have been a couple of threads kicking around about the light in question. Managed to find this one- https://www.bikeforums.net/advocacy-s...cnn-story.html

At ~$200, it's way overpriced. It's probably a simple cheap $5 laser module with a mask and lens in front of it, all wrapped up in a casing. I think this thing would annoy the CRAP out of me, it'd be jiggling everywhere, making it almost incomprehensible.

The ONLY thing this has going for it is that it's WEIRD. People don't expect to see a green light on the road, so they may stop and see what it is. Other than that, what does this do differently than a well pointed/focused bike light?

Oh come on ole boy, I know you really want one dontcha.

I think both lights are a good idea. I'm not sure the front light would work here in AZ though. They're too stupid here. They would chase after it like a cat would run after a lazer beam.

So true. Doesn't say much for us Arizonians does it. I look forward to the nice cooler weather we get at this time of year, but I dread the onslaught of winter visitors. While out shopping on the weekend, I had to follow one of those snow birds pocking along at 20mph in a 45mph posted street. Errrr! Many are from the farming communities up north. I guess he thought he was driving his tractor. I could have overtaken him on my Brompton for crying out loud. I recall seeing a pumper sticker on a guy's car a few years ago - "When I Retire, I'm Moving Up North and Drive Slow."

The most popular topic of conversation among residents here at this time of year revolves around the effects of snow birds - too bad we can't hunt them, or at least chase their backsides back home. They say we need their money - I ain't got any of it.

Both look cool. Why weren't they around when I was a bike commuter in Atlanta?

I passed on my two cents to Blaze. At their webpage you can pass on your thoughts if you wish. I wrote that I thought it was a great idea and if the price were €75 I'd consider buying one; at €160, that's out of the question.

I received a response to my comment:

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for getting in touch. The margins on a Laserlight are very slim, and our bill of materials (BOM) alone is more than this price, before the assembly, packing, delivery and all other costs.

The bulk of the cost is the stable direct-diode laser component, necessary as the cheaper DPSS lasers can't stand up to the vibrations of the road and rapid heat changes.

In my opinion, the best way to get a free Laserlight is to put it on your Christmas list

Best,

Diana

If you think that drivers are going to see that little spot on the road directly in front of your bike, and recognize it for what it is, and figure out what info it's supposed to convey, then you have more faith in them than I do.

Poor Diana.

I'm sure she spent quality time in this business but it has no future at that price. One could probably do the the same by taking a small picture of a bicycle and sticking it on an inexpensive flash light and pointing the beam on the road.

That'd create a green blob on the road, a visual signal that most savvy drivers would understand as a green light meaning "hit the gas hard and turn the wheel fast".

Lasers don't work that way. It's likely a cheap laser module with a diffraction element (aka hologram) that creates the pattern which would be even cheaper than a mask and lens...
