Anybody here put size roadbike tires on a hybrid bike?

I have the typical hybrid 700x35 tires right now on my Trek 7300 and was toying with the idea of changing rims/tires and going to a 25 for more speed. Anybody?

The width of your rims will limit your lower size. Most hybrid rims can take 28mm, but 25 can get a bit lost in the gap.

There is a compatablility chart at

How much would decent rims cost for a 25 tire? Anygood online sites?

depends on the rear spacing on your frame for what wheels you can get. anything below 1.5" or so on my bike get's lost.

Your hybrid probably has a rear frame width of 135mm rather than the standard road frame width of 130mm. If you want an alternate set of wheels for narrow tyres, then you will have to get them built up by a shop. You can get a medium road rim laced to an MTB hub, this is quite standard for light-touring bikes. You can chose between 32 or 36 spoke count, depending on your weight and the intended use of the wheel.
I use a Mavic MA3 rim which is reasonable quality, rated for 19mm-28mm tyres but good up to 32mm.
Mavic Open Pro is a slightly higher grade of rim that is very popular.

I was wondering the same thing as I have a Trek 7500FX. It came with Bontrager Select wheels which seem to be the same size as the ones that came on my Lemond. I'll have to check the spacing and see.

how wide are your rims?

Check out Sheldon's tire page then scroll down to the chart near the bottom of the page. You may be abe to get narrower tires for your existing rims.
