IMO, the MUPs need serious policing now! Why wait for the future?

I've only ever seen the police at night telling people the trail is closed. They've always let me go with no ticket, thankfully-they make exceptions for commuters, since it's safer/easier to commute on the MUP than the roads for the most part. I note they can somehow patrol to get people off the trail, "because it's not safe!" but somehow they can't re-purpose those same patrols into safety.

I have seen trail monitors going up&down every few days, making sure people are okay, etc.

Why not? Doing interval training, no, it's generally a bad place. Except when it's well past dark. Then it's virtually empty and absolutely wonderful riding. But even beyond that, I live downtown. One MUP goes south, and to empty rural roads(In decent condition, lightly trafficked) in flat farmland. Another goes north, and stops right at the beginning of the Texas Hill Country. Again, well maintained, lightly trafficked roads. Great riding. They're commuting corridors, as well. For both work and a major university.

Not roadies, but there are lots of MTB trails off the MUP. Hell, they go faster than the roadies most of the time-the roadies will slow down to pass. And/or go easy on the MUP while they use it to get to great riding. The MTBers just keep on going in the gravel.

Meaning a responsible and courteous rider has nothing to do with your clothing or bike choice. I'd rather have a cat 1 roadie or experienced MTBer zoom by at 8 inches with complete control than grandma and grandpa decide to throw their kickstands down in the middle of the path, right over the crown of a hill, or need to weave back and forth across the hill in order to make it up. Etc.

Hilariously, the only time I've actually been ridden of the path was by somebody on a freaking cervelo R3 who couldn't keep a straight line.

I ride an area "wheelway" with bikers (not "cyclists") riding 3-4 abreast at such a slow pace it begs the question why they are riding. I approach them with trepidation that they may be upset for my using their path. I dont dare notify them with adequate verbal volume for fear they turn and go hysterical on me. Then there was this long-haired human shaped thing riding a longboard with 8ft pole in hand performing mesmerizing fluid Tai Chi movements. Then there is the oncoming group of 4 hipsters on comfort bikes prattling on about the shape of the aspen leaves and wooly caterpillars. They approached as if I were invisible. The "male" was oblivious that I was at a complete stop yelling at him to notice me lest we wreck. Something about his waving arms in the air and his head in the cumulous formations gave me caution.

Is it too much for me to ask that OTHERS commit random acts of intelligence when on our bike path?
