Nope, he's not using popgear at all
I sometimes ask my wife where's my super-suit when I'm gearing up for a road ride.

This is your idea of respect?

You're so full of fresh, aromatic bovine fertilizer your eyes are totally brown.

You don't even have the courage to stand behind what you posted. Backpedal away.

Big damn baby.

And now you're being mocked. Deservedly so.

And if you read this thread, you'll see his original pejorative remarks weren't even brought up until he wouldn't let go of his overblown sense of outrage at "idiots dressed up in full Halloween regalia".

Exactly. I see that a lot when I stop for the salmoning dog walkers who switch from being mad at me because I'm there in the bicycling on the bike path in the first place to being really mad at me for stopping so they can go around. Maniac to idiot in a matter of seconds.

Did I say that I hated roadies? Did I? I do recall saying in one post that I have respect for them. I don't care whether its roadies that are riding fast in a MUP or someone riding a mountain bike. If they or anyone else is riding excessively fast in a MUP, someone can and possibly will get hurt, and it could be a child. In the case that I opened with, it was those individuals riding a road bike dressed in team regalia that were the culprits, and yes, whoever they are, roadie or mountain biker, I will pen my disdain, and I will use pronouns to describe them, like Halloween regalia. And cyccommute that dissed me for riding two abreast when he himself mentioned that he does. So its OK for him and not for me. Good grief people. There's enough hatred in the world without flogging one another here.
"Halloween regalia" contains no pronouns. Just for reference, please watch below

Pronouns aside, you can't credibly make the argument that your comment about "idiots in full Halloween regalia" was in no way meant to be a put-down of people who wear kit, and doesn't reflect at all on your attitude about them. Your whole post is dripping with contempt for those who you feel take themselves too seriously. I don't think you were exactly trying to troll...but I think you expected people to join in on your mocking of roadie types for superficial reasons and instead you are being called out for it. You weren't misunderstood, you just overshared. Better to keep such nastiness to yourself.

I don't know if they still do this or not, but the park district said they were going to patrol this MUP. I think they were only looking for bicyclists who were not following the rules. I did see a picture of one of their employees on the safety patrol, and apparently flip flops were considered appropriate footwear and helmets were optional.

It should have been removed as soon as it was started for obvious and blatant trolling.

I think Hanlon's Razor is apropos here:

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

If he were trolling, he wouldn't have tried to defend himself after his rants had begun to provoke a response. He also didn't up the vitriol of his original insults even though they were ignored at first. He didn't begin to get slapped for those insults until what? The bottom of page 2 after several polite postings. Imagine what the immediate response would have been he had posted this thread in the Road forum ...

I think the OP is nothing more nor less than clueless about what "fast" on a bike really is, got offended by roadies rolling easy on a MUP at 16 mph and passing him without warning, not knowing that 16 mph is slow and passing without notice is learned behavior because notice causes MUP noobs to move unpredictably. So he came here - a cycling forum - and vented, throwing insults at cyclists along the way.

Heck, he's doubly clueless, ain't he? He didn't know normal, safe MUP behavior. Then he walked into the lion's den and popped off insulting the lions and was surprised they finally bit back.

That last paragraph describes it really well.

But he does have a track-record of criticising people who wear cycling-specific attire which leads me to believe that part was inserted deliberately.

He'd have been torn to shreds by the third post if he'd posted in Road.

Policing MUP? Police are going to do what on MUP ? Enforce a non existing speed limit ? Enforce a 3.45 foot buffer in order to pass if going 7.95MPH higher then overtaken biker, roller bladder, runner, walker, wheelchair user, birder, horse rider, . . . .

There are lots of different behavior on the MUPs that various types of users find annoying and inconsiderate. I think everyone can agree that the REAL dangerous people on the MUPs are the idiots who try to text and bike at the same time. There have been at least 10 times in the last few years that I've been forced off the trail and/or run into because some idiot was trying text while cycling and lost control.

If I get chastised for calling people who text while biking "idiots" then so be it.

I went down there once. Just enough sand on a curve. I wasn't going fast at all -- you can't on that section. It was embarrassing but other than a little blood on the knee no problem. Once you get past Marina del Rey tings open up a bit. Except going through Manhattan and Redondo. But again the sight-seeing makes it worthwhile.

Busy MUPS are a cluster Bleep. Always have been always will be. We all know that going in, ride accordingly. As bad as they can be sometimes it is nice to not have to deal with even crazier traffic. Better a MUP that is a zoo than no MUP at all.

When the stronger riders grow up and get their wings, they'll be out on the road and won't bother you any more.

Why were they wearing Halloween costumes in November? Was this some sort of parade?

Nearly every time I ride on an MUP I encounter numerous idiots dressed up in full Walmart sweat pants regalia. They are usually couples yet they are both listening to iPods. And they are walking so far apart that they are taking up the entire trail. I am riding the trail's speed limit and warn them of my approach but they cannot hear me because of the volume of the music piped directly into their auditory canals. The worst part if when they turn to head in the other direction without once considering that there just might be other trail users.

What shall we do with their ilk?

Actually, the main MUP in my area does have an official speed limit, rules about who is supposed to yield to whom, etc. In theory, officials of the park agency which manages the trail could observe bad behavior and educated people about proper trail use.

The portion of the Schuykill River Trail in Montgomery County. 15 MPH is the speed limit. https://www.montcopa.org/DocumentCenter/View/3462There is also a portion of the trail in Philadelphia with speed limit signs, albeit an unrealistically low one of 7 M.P.H. In fact, the city has rules that apply to all trails within the city limits:https://www.phila.gov/ParksandRecreat...gulations.aspx
