Carbon fiber gloves
Anyone ever try one of those cheap carbon-fiber knuckled gloves from eBay? If so, how were they? If not, I'll update this thread with my experiences after I get them.
I'm thinking of getting a pair; the carbon fiber (even if it turns out to be just plastic) and the rubber finger tips will probably be nice touches should I ever take a spill.
I thought about getting some gloves with carbon fiber reinforcements when I was a biker, and didn't after someone mentioned how the carbon fiber shatters in an impact. I didn't want to worry about those tiny sharp pieces cutting my hands if I ever fell off my motorcycle, and still don't want to do that on my bicycle.
The Improbable Bulk
The times when I have injured my hands during a bicycle fall I usually skinned up the palms of my hands...
I have always assumed that the gloves with protection across the knuckles were for mountain bikers to protect the hands when hitting branches, tree trunks etc.

Some CF uses are just sales gimmicks. OTOH I know where you can get some CF condoms.
They work well in mt biking for branches and thorn type stuff.
Well, I got them, and for one thing, it isn't carbon fiber but rather some sort of hard plastic. They seem to provide some level of protection for the knuckles ... I tried punching the wall a few times with them on and I barely felt a thing. So this will probably be good if I take a really nasty spill off a bike and my palm ends up facing the sky or something.
On the palm side everything is rather thin but I think it'll hold up for one spill off a bike.
