Wow. That's sad. Imagine if the OP had just bought a bike after a week or two of making his first post. Even if it were some $100 piece-of-junk from a thrift store. He could have been riding all of this time.

I thought I was bad, taking about 2 weeks to pull the trigger on my first bike as an adult, when I was 49. But I realized after doing a little research, that for what I wanted to spend, to see if I liked the sport or not; and if I'd stick with it; that no matter what, I wouldn't be getting a quality bike, but just something that was serviceable and better than a BSO. I put 3000 miles on that first $300 bike in the year or so that I rode it, and traded it in a deal for which I figure I got about $150 for it- so I essentially paid 1.5 cents per mile, and lost weight and got in-shape. Not a bad deal in my book.

OP needs to realize, that at that price point, WHAT bike he gets isn't as important as just getting A bike and getting out there.

I got my first road bike off craigslist for $100 and road it for probably about 800 miles by the time I decided I wanted to get a little more serious. But it worked perfectly fine, and with some components swapped out its now my touring bike.

**********

You can actually buy Treks at Trek's list price (it's a real price).

You can't buy BD bikes at their "list" price (that number is fake).

My point was that ALL list prices are "made up" and serve whatever need a manufacturer/marketer of the product wants them to serve.

Can someone put a muzzle on this dip****? I recommend a mid-level road bike with training wheels for you and no, I don't have a recommendation on the type of training wheels!

It seems that the OP has long since abandoned this discussion, so no muzzle is needed. Time to give this a rest
